Title: Can't See Lasers
Post by: Nohg on January 01, 2010, 04:05:40 pm
Hey everyone, recently re-installed this gem now that I have the time to enjoy it again. I'm using my regular 3 FS2 discs and the latest FSO (used a spiffy  automatic Java installer that was very slick). It downloaded all the textures and hi-res stuff and everything works, so far as I can see.

The only thing that does not work is laser emission. By which I mean in the first TSM I can fire, get an energy draw and see the purple glow on the instructor, but I absolutely cannot see the actual lasers I am firing, just their blow on other objects. Furthermore, when I shoot the instructor his shields show up as an opaque black map  instead of the purple glowy effect that missile hits elicit.  Seems like all my laser associated models/effects are not playing nicely.

I have the following options in launcher:

C:\Games\FreeSpace2\fs2_open_3_6_10.exe -spec -glow -env -mipmap -missile_lighting -normal -3dshockwave -targetinfo -orbradar -rearm_timer -ballistic_gauge -3dwarp -warp_flash -snd_preload -ati_swap  -ambient_factor 70 -spec_exp 8.2 -spec_tube 1.0 -spec_point 8.6 -spec_static 3.5

Could any of those be the cause of this laser error? If not, what can I try to get a fix on this? I have an ATI Radeon HD 4850 and am using Windows 7 x64. As I said, the rest of the game is fine as far as I can see.

Any suggestions would be welcome and I thank you for you help!

Hrm. Not using the MediaVPs? You should be able to handle them.

Run the debug build. Post the fs2_open.log from the data folder here.

You should also disable ati_swap, probably. Unless, of course, the colours look all wrong without it.

Thank you thank you thank you!

I suppose it serves me right for trying to install from memory. Forgot to click the MediaVp's in the mod tab. For Shame...... For Shame.....

I am interested, however, why were my lasers not showing up but my missiles were working quite nicely?

Show me the log, and maybe I can tell you.
