What custom flags are you using right now?

To be honest, most custom flags do not affect performance, but have more of an aesthetic influence.

Wiki at the top of the page + search = win.

Plus what the above guy said is true.

Those messages were intended to help. You mean you don't have any boxes checked in the launcher?

Look, torc, sorry if what was said previously came across as insulting, but it helps to ask what the user has done already before giving him superfluous tips. And the wiki has a great page (http://www.hard-light.net/wiki/index.php/Sample_Lighting_Settings) with some sets of custom flags that you can take as a guide when making your own adjustments.

How could mine have been rude? It summarised a point quite well with no ill intentions :wtf:

So yeah. If you mean those lighting flags, the link posted by The E is excellent. If you don't have any flags on, I recommend checking out http://www.hard-light.net/wiki/index.php/Command-Line_Reference . It explains pretty much everything (except post-processing and bloom).

Do you mean compile flags (if you're on Linux and compiling your own builds) or command line flags?

Compile flags are a higher alchemy and I'll say nothing of those. If this discussion is about them, I would recommend moving it to the SCP forum. I don't even know if performance can be optimized by setting different flags based on environment. :nervous:

On the other hand, command line flags typically don't have direct effect on performance, but they have secondary effect based on what new features are enabled - like normal maps, shine maps, post-processing and of course mods like MediaVP's (which use tons of more memory than the retail assets).

Aside from the options that can be set in the Launcher features, there are the lighting settings:
Sample lighting settings (http://www.hard-light.net/wiki/index.php/Sample_Lighting_Settings), experiment to achieve ideal results for yourself.

Also, there's the -fov X option which determines the field of view. Default value is 0.75, which results in a fairly wide field of view. I prefer something like -fov 0.55-0.65 but you need to test different settings again to find the one you like most.
