Title: BSG beyond TRL
Post by: IRT on January 05, 2010, 10:52:17 am
Just a Q about the campaign for BTRL demo mod  for fs2 i can't get  passed the second mission, the cylon ship after finding green2 basically dissapears  and you can only see his thruster but cannot shoot him and finish the mission, its the mission were u escort the mining barge through the astrioid field.
I dont know if this is the right section but if anybody knows how to fix it would be great.

Luckily the missions author happens to reside here.

So if you're lucky. . . He may just answer your question  ;)

that's sweet. I thought at first it could have been a bug with the FTL drives (jump drives) causing ships not to jump away correctly as the mining barge suffers a similar problem when it jumps.
THough im really not sure.

Do you know the user-name of this guy? so I can direct him to my thread if he has spare time, cheers

Most likely, you're using a newer build of FSO. BTRL ships with a custom build that's needed for warp-out animations to work right.

(No, I'm not the mission author. I'm just guessing based on my own experience.)

If that's the case is there a known fix?
I've tried the demo updater though it doesn't work.

Use the executable that came with the Demo?

There used to be a patch for the Demo, but ever since the BtRL team split up, there are no download locations for it (or at least, none that I could find).

Not sure what your asking there, I load the MOD from the SCP launcher.

Oh dear.

BTRL is a standalone game. It's not a "mod" as such. You should install it into a completely separate directory far away from your FS2/FSO and run it as a separate game.

Edit: The BTRL site (http://www.beyondtheredline.net/demo.html) seems to be running and the downloads seem to work.

No, it doesn't. What you download when you click on that "Patch" link is an Update for BtRLs autopatcher, which doesn't work.

Oh I see, I didn't know that, I will try again launching from standalone and see if it rectifies the problem, thanks.

That would be me. :)

BtRL is definitely meant to be a standalone. I'm surprised you got as far as you did installing it as an FS2 mod.

It's also a mine of good effects and other stuff, like music and sounds.
It's Cylon bomb flare is used almost everywhere, a lot of great stuff comes from there.
It's sound effects have unrivaled quality compared to sounds from other public mods.
Also, anyone who wants a machine gun in FS will look there and take Colonial KEW.

IIRC, they are dead (or uber inactive.) The main thread at GW about their project is being archived. Kinda sucks, since it was such an amazing demo. BTW, if it's legal and all, I may be able to upload a copy of the game that I got on a PC magazine disk, if people are still looking for it... Of course there are other sources, but it's an idea maybe.

They aren't dead, but they have gone underground... they've apparently decided that publicity is just getting in their way. But one of these days, they might just reappear with the whole thing done.

That would be nice, to say the very least. Diaspora is based on the BSG universe also, right?

That's encouraging. :p

Indeed.
Well, that's something BSG related to look forward to I guess.
