I can't speak for Diaspora, but honestly, it's almost impossible to know these things from a dev standpoint.
You know exactly what you have to do, but you have no idea how long it'll take.

I found it rather amousing for someone to ask about "something going to plan" in a BSG related forum.
Ask the Cylons about things going according to plan :p

Batutta speaks the truth. We've given release dates before and that basically taught us not to give out release dates any more.
Well. We'll probably give you one once we're done with everything except beta testing. That way we can be sure that we'll deliver on the date specified.
I will say that you should check back often in the near future. Read into that what you will...

What newman is basically saying is, he has a completed copy of the game, but will withhold it until sufficient bribes are swung his way.

It'll be on the same DVD as Half Life 2: Episode 3 and Starcraft II.

Asking for release dates on diaspora tends to provoke extreme rage, even if you ask nicely. I nearly got a one month ban. But yeah they do have a point, and its kinda still vaporware atm, maybe not so vapor-ish but lots of projects here just drop dead overnight. The only thing that will be really great to know is are they over the three quarter mark yet.

See here is the whole problem. We keep a countdown to release time going. Every time someone asks when the release will be we hit the reset on the timer and it starts over.

As you can see there was no rage in this thread. Why? Because the author didn't find 20 slightly different ways of asking for a release date in a short amount of time. Not annoying us every 5 minutes with the same question that you claim is different because it's worded a bit differently does help.

You were not banned simply for asking for a release date or an estimate. In fact IIRC you were not banned for asking at all. That's what got you your custom title. You were banned for telling the administration staff how to do their job (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php?topic=65622.msg1293562#msg1293562) on another part of the board after being flat out told not to tell the administrators how to do their job.

I think I've said before, the problem here isn't lack of stuff to put in the game, it's putting all the stuff in the game ;)

Dev guys, don't worry about the 'Are we there yet's' at all.
I'm a huge fan of Battlestar Galactica and I'd not have anything against immediatelly dying, but only after I've played this game. :P I might even be the most eager guy regarding the release of this game.
And it's not just me, we are all immensely eager to get a go at playing this sweetness, but there's no rush.
I'd much rather have a high quality BSG game later than a half-assed one earlier, and I'm glad you seem to be feeling the same way.
You're all very capable and things are looking very promising judging by the pictures, and you shouldn't feel pressured, especially because you're doing this out of unselfish reasons.
So keep at it, good luck doing your work, take it one step at a time, and we'll be with you every step of the way.
And if you ask me, you top those expressly commercial teams off with ease, not only because you're not doing this for money or exploitation of the "buyers", but also because your work is a piece of quality.

The Battlestar Galactica game for PC? Wing Commander Arena knock-off, which was also utter **** as it completely ignored the soul of Wing Commander as a Combat Space Simulator.
