Title: Game Won't Open
Post by: herroprease on January 10, 2010, 11:20:06 am
I was using fsport fine last week, but yesterday it all of a sudden wouldn't open. I have it selected in the mod panel of the launcher, but when I click launch, it just loads the exe and nothing happens. I can load regular FS2 fine, but the fsport campaign doesn't show up in the campaign room anymore either. I have no clue what's going on here, it's really frustrating.

Your fs2_open.log: (possibly the most important thing ever)
  • fs2_open.log is a file generated by debug builds. It contains all sorts of useful information that we need in order to help you. That is why you should follow the instructions below and provide us with that file when asking for help. Creating an fs2_open.log happens like this:
    • Download the recommended build (link is in the first post of this thread) if you haven't already and place the .exe files to your \freespace2\ folder.
    • Switch to windowed mode (open the Launcher, open the Features tab, select Dev Tools from the pulldown menu and tick on "Run in window").
    • Select the debug build (fs2_open_3_6_10_debug.exe) and run it. If you've been experiencing crashes, do exactly what you've done previously, up until it crashes.

      If you have had other issues, it is sufficient to run it until you get to the Main Hall. If the debug build crashes fatally even before getting to the Main Hall, no worries.
    • Quit the game.
    • Find fs2_open.log from \freespace2\data\, copy it to a safe location and include it to your post, either as an attachment (click Additional Options when posting) or using the "code" tags.

The debug doesn't run either, it does the same thing where it starts and just sits in the background.

fs2_open.log should still be in your \freespace2\data\ directory. Please post it. If it does not exist, please provide
- system specs
- screenshots of at least your \freespace2\ folder and \freespace2\fsport\ folder, preferrably so that all .vp files can be seen.

Edit: Also, any possible changes you've done to your hardware/operating system could be worth mentioning.

The exe crashed once it got to that point. The only change I can think of is that I plugged in a joystick last night for the first time and tried to load it with that plugged in, but I don't know how that would affect it.

Your FS1OGGcutscenepack.vp is probably ****ed up, since the log ends, when the game engine attempts to read it. Remove it from your entire \freespace2\ directory. If you want to see the FS1 cutscenes, download them separately from FreeSpaceMods.net (http://freespacemods.net/download.php?view.187) and place them to \freespace2\fsport\data\movies\ (create the directory).

Edit: Also,
Code: [Select]
Found root pack 'C:\Games\FreeSpace2\fsport\mv_fsport.vp' with a checksum of 0xdc8abbdemv_fsport.vp should be in \freespace2\fsport-mediavps\ and you should use the \fsport-mediavps\ folder as a mod. The \fsport-mediavps\ folder should also contain a mod.ini that says
Code: [Select]
[launcher]
modname      = FSPort MediaVPs v3.1.1;
image255x112 = fsport-mediavps.bmp;
infotext     = Freespace Port Media VPs.  Requires FSPort 3.1.1 and standard Media VPs 3.6.10.;
website      = http://fsport.hard-light.net/;
forum        = http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/board,170.0.html;

[multimod]
secondarylist = fsport,mediavps;
.

Editedit:
Code: [Select]
-mod fsport,fsport-mediavps,fsport,mediavpsYou are doing the whole mod business wrong. The game engine now reads \fsport\, then (presumably empty) \fsport-mediavps\, then \fsport\ again and finally \mediavps\ . Just a while back another person had similar issues because the mod folders were entered redundantly into the -mod flag. If you placed mv_fsport.vp to \fsport-mediavps\, made sure the mod.ini that came with it was also in \fsport-mediavps\ and then used \fsport-mediavps\ as the active mod, the -mod flag would end up as
Code: [Select]
-mod fsport-mediavps,fsport,mediavpsand everything would work.

That fixed it, thanks a lot! I was all excited to try out my new joystick and then this crap happened. Time to play the game as it was meant to be played.  :D
