Title: Direction Turret faces Vs. direction Turret fires

The title is mostly self explanatory, a majority of capital ships with Multipart turrets have a habit of spending most of their time firing thier weapons in the opposite direction that the turret is facing, it's incredibly silly to watch happen though memory is trying to tell me that the ordeal had been taken care of some time ago, possibly I mixed the idea up with reading something that was different. The Hecate seems to do a good job of facing where it fires but the Orion and Aten, sometimes the Fenris / Leviathan and the Cain / Lilith when using FS1 armaments are huge troublemakers in this regard.
Who else notices this reguarly? Is this by any chance a solvable issue, I remember on Retail bomber turrets on the Ursa and Medusa would face the complete opposite way that it fired as well, but I haven't seen this behavior on the two bombers ever since playing on the MediaVPs.

Might be a problem on the Aeolus but then again I think it doesn't really suffer from the fire angle problem and then against most Multiparts are super-slow moving weapons that target capitals anyway so they're never used on fast, small targets.

Uh...the ships that have this problem occur often have slow moving Huge-flagged weapons.
The Hecate and Aeolus flak guns don't do this, the Orion's, Colossus, Iceni's, and Deimos's turrets which have quite a few Terran Huge Turrets do it a lot.

Well.. using a slow turning turret firing bolts flying at snail pace might not be the best idea for killing fighters

The big Stratcomm ships had this problem something awful. I believe it was resolved at some point during BP development and I've seen no major drop in combat effectiveness on their part.

Unless you increase the turret rotation speed in the ships.tbl.

Then the big turrets should able to keep up with tracking their targets.

Well, if the Aeolus's turrets rotated at 120 (or even a bit more) deg/s it wouldn't really look bad because they're relatively small...
And the Orion is armed with THT's so it's combat capabilities wouldn't suffer if it had turrets rotating at 90 or less deg/s- the THT's would still keep up with bombs and freighters, and are already useless against anything else.

The Hecate might be a problem with the large flak guns on it's back though.

If you were to have a mod where things were a bit faster-paced and took place at longer ranges, this feature could be very useful indeed.

At longer ranges, a low turret traverse speed would be fairly unimportant as tracking wouldn't be having a great deal of stress placed upon it. At very close ranges, however, the fighter getting "up close and personal" to the warship would help protect the fighter from the said turret as the turret would not be able to track properly...

...Just a thought.

I spotted this bug playing through the retail campaign, too - Big laser turrets pointing the exact opposite way that they were actually firing.

After reading the code (and having been editing for a couple of times) it seems :v: had some issues getting the turrets work on the way they wanted and decided (essentially) to separate turret rotation rotation from the turret firing.

But as said it can be 'fixed' now if required. However as that fix does change mission balance it cannot be used by default with mediavps.

could the turret be forced to face the way it's firing, instead of vice versa?  it might look somewhat weird with fast moving turrets and whatnot, but imo no moreso than shots coming out the ass-end of the barrel.  and theoretically it would have no balance implications.

Remember, this change would extend even to the kind of precisely tuned multiplayer matches that QuantumDelta and company are fond of.
