lol the post before yours is gone now.
I can confirm that my post is gone. May I know why?
I mean, I know that I wasn't PC but my point isn't "worthy" of censorship.
-
We're here to support and encourage new players, not be total assholes to them - something I haven't even completely succeeded at in this thread.
Wonder when having manners was termed 'politically correct'.

Stating that I have no manners is an insult and I do not tolerate it. I always keep a cold head on forums and as far as I can recall never insulted anyone, including this guy who left the forums earlier anyway. I only said that his behaviour was childish anyway. Wonder when "childish" became a form of swear.

I've seen worse posts that were left there.
-
Split from original thread, carry on if you like.
As far as I'm concerned, it was a support request, and helping the guy out was top priority.
-
IMHO, to answer the question in the thread title, no. No post should be deleted, ever. Disemvoweled, perhaps, but never deleted.
-
I didn't say you shouldn't have. It was just unusual, but understandable given that it wasn't two vet members venting each other's fury over GenDisc.
-
Unfortunately I can't get into the recycler to get Lucika's post.
Needless to say it clearly wasn't going to help encourage this guy to stick with FreeSpace.
EDIT: I'll be happy to lock the thread if you feel the issue's resolved, Lucika. I thought your 'won't tolerate it' remark suggested a need to discuss.

Unfortunately I can't get into the recycler to get Lucika's post...
That's good news. :)

It was this, if anyone's interested...
This was a fine example of a really childish behaviour.
This has nothing to do with pride, neither with stubborness. His reaction was just stupid, in my opinion.
"I refuse to make this easier! Hey, I can't beat it like that! F@&X!! DELETE THIS BASTARD!!!"
Laughable.

If there was a request for the post to be removed because it offended someone then yes it is especially a priority. IMO it's better than being publicly 'called out', monkeyed or banned.
This should also be a private conversation to the mods but with the hostility towards administration around here lately it's understandable for the need to discuss it.
-
unnecessary post deletion, lol

I would tend to agree with this. These conversations should take place over PM, first and foremost, and then (if PM isn't satisfactory) via one of the support forums. Posting a thread like this in General Discussion, where it's almost an invitation to all the rank-and-file members to gang up on a moderator/admin, is very poor form IMHO.
Since it doesn't look like Lucika has access to Site Feedback, I'm moving this to Site Support.
-
I was the one who moved it to GenDisc, Goob.
I wasn't sure if it would be appropriate in Site Support since it wasn't a tech issue and I knew Lucika couldn't access Site Feedback.
I felt I should be open to criticism if it was felt my actions were too high-handed. But looking at the original post I just don't see how it was appropriate.

Lock it if there is (and I hope there isn't) any public interest. I just clammed up on the "manners = PC" stuff you wrote packed "you have no manners at all" and this is something that I considered an open attack on me.
This is what I've had issues with but since no one looked that up it seems to me that it didn't have a significance at all. If so, you can close the thread instantly, otherwise I'd like to talk about that.
-
I didn't write that, though I can see why you took it that way. Reread the post.
Your post was rude, no question of that, but it doesn't mean you don't have any manners. It's a long leap from a situational claim to a dispositional one.

Well, that's ironic. :)
I figured that, given that atmosphere of Gen. Disc., the thread would degenerate into an argument or shouting match. Site Support, even though it's not precisely the correct forum, would probably have a more civilized response.

I personally wouldn't have deleted the post, but I don't think a warning was unnecessary. Posting in the original thread probably would have been sufficient.

This is why what I've based my assumption on.

The post was rude. That doesn't mean you're rude.
-
I didn't quite get a chance to follow this up as I had a parade night tonight.
Suffice to say I didn't appreciate the original post in GD. This is a matter for site support as a last report. First port of call would have been to ask General Battuta via pm. The only reason to ask in GD would have been to get external opinion which Is irrelevant as GB is the line you have to toe in my or nukes absense.

Well, since you didn't mean that, I guess we're done here. Feel free to close the post then :)
-
This means a happy end for the participants, and a certain doom for the thread. :D

It was me who moved it there, Dekker. I didn't know where else to put it. I have been informed.
Threadlock time!
