Post by: Darkage on April 11, 2002, 07:33:45 am
After 9 hours of rendering for a 20 sec file i finaly completed it whit sounds, like beam sounds and explosion sounds..
This is the first part of a small series i'm makeing. so expect new animations soon, whit some improvements:) Until the next one is released you'll have to do whit this one:) Enjoy.

The explosion bits could use work, mainly debris. Also when the Narn Cruiser gets a facelift (trying not to spoil too much) there's a slight pause.

Still Great work.

good, good :)
yeah, when the ship is cut off in two, there's a strange glitch. otherwise, I can't put my finger on what exactly, but there's something wrong with the camera movement, it's.. not natural, dunno.

Hehehe, next i need to learn volumetric explosions:) i noticed that yes, i'll fix it later on:)

For each piece that gets destroyed there is a seperate model for. that makes 3 extra models. one for the left winf one for he right and he facelift shot:)

The camera definately moves in a weird way after the first slice, and the model change when the ship is cut is too sudden and too visible. Try making the camera movement a bit more smooth, and cut the scene to another camera instead of moving the camera forward again - it looks like the ship is moving backwards, and not the camera moving forward.

Ah, and make the first two beam shots move too - it's weird how the first two don't move and miss completely, while the following ones slice through the ship.

should have broken up the ship while the lens flare was active, so the glitch wouldn't have been noticable.

But yeah, the 2 beams that miss don't even move, yet the ones that hit 'slice' it... not good =p

And just a question: why are the Minbari after a Narn cruiser? Any particular reason other than "I like the models"? :)

I admit there are some timing glitches in the animation:) i noticed some others also..

I had this idea to make several small animations whit a war between the Minbari and the Narn, thats the main reason.. the other one is i just like to trash some narn vessels:)

Shall i add some fighters that are trying to attack the Sharlin? and the 2 beams that do not move shoot the fighters?

Any sugestions on how to make it more then just a G'quan cruiser being trashed?

I like there ships and i never seen much of them get blown to pieces, so why not make a small wra where they get trashed...

Bah gonna ad some fighters that try to escape from the minbari,

maby i let some nail fighters blow the Frazi fighters to pieces..

But not bad for a real first animation:D

It says .avi but its playing like a .wav or .mp3 ... wierd
Title: The chase animation released
Post by: TeflonBob on April 12, 2002, 09:36:30 am
I have to say that really is a beauty:eek:  :D :D

As far as the camera angle goes i would continue moving it in an anti clockwise arc around the back of the ship and show the attack from the other side. The reason it looks wierd is that with no reference points to show it's the camera that's moving, it looks like the ship is jumping into reverse.

But bloody nice all the same;)

I just saw it. :) I agree with all the above comments; main gripes are with the camera movement, and also the explosions that went by too quickly. This is a big ship getting torn apart here, metal vapourising and twisting, debris flying off... not a quick process, even with weapons as powerful as on this scale. Dramatise the ship's destruction a little; slow it down. :)

You know how hard that is to make?:)

I am fixing stuff atm like adding volumetrics to replace the lensflares. New camera movement, the end will be  abit longer and better devris movement etc so expet soon a fixed version:)
