Title: FSPORT cutscenes?
Post by: Soender on January 20, 2010, 01:39:02 pm
How to?

I installed everything using this excellent noob guide http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php?topic=61606.0 (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php?topic=61606.0)

And now I wanna try playing freespace from the beginning. But how to get cutscenes working? Currently It shows the intro for freespace 2 which I haven't played yet, but I really wanna get the full freespace experience.

Does the open installer include the fs1 cutscenes so I just have to activate them or do I have to dl them somewhere.

I have searched high and low btw, but my particular issue I can't find.

Shortcut: Download this: http://www.fszmirror.com/files/fsport/FS1OGGcutscenepack.vp and place it in your fsport folder.

Just realized that that downlopad link is dead. Use this one instead: http://www.freespacemods.net/download.php?view.187

Unpack that file. If it is a vp, put it in your fsport folder. If it is a colection of .ogg files, place them into fsport\data\movies

If you bought FS1/ST then you can just copy the MVEs from the disk to the <FS2dir>\fsport\data\movies folder, IIRC.  Select the fsport + mediavps mod in the launcher, select FS1 campaign in the campaign room, and you're done!

EDIT: www.gog.com if you want to buy it. like 5.99 for FS1/ST and again for FS2. ;)

Yeah I bought fs2 at gog yesterday because I knew this source code project had tons of mods, including the original game :)

Anyways. I think I found the files. http://www.freespacemods.net/download.php?list.31 (http://www.freespacemods.net/download.php?list.31)

So which one should go to the directory you mentioned? The ogg ones or the mve ones?

Unpack that file. If it is a vp, put it in your fsport folder. If it is a collection of .ogg files, place them into fsport\data\movies

Actually I just realized, my fsport haven't got a data directory?

Shouls I use the one  in "fsport-mediavps" instead?

If that directory doesn't exist, you can create it.

It seems to have worked by putting it in the "fsport-mediavps" dir. Thanks a bunch. Now I'm off to space :)

Preferrably \freespace2\fsport\data\movies\ (yes, create the directory if you don't have it yet). But it should work in both cases.

This game fricking rocks! haven't played a space sim since freelancer and this is even better. I really dig the controls!

6 dollars and one hell of a modding community ftw!  Thanks a bunch again you guys!

Does that have a direct link, so I can update the FSPort files for the Installer?

I don't think fsmods allows direct links to downloads...

anyway, the download link there is: http://www.freespacemods.net/request.php?187

Question: since all the other files seem to be hosted at FreeSpaceMods.net (http://fsport.freespacemods.net/releases/), why not the cutscenepack?

Uhh. Doesnt gog.com sell games to download. In which case you'll have the game on hdd already. Whats the point of repacked cutscenes then, other than occupying extra space. The cutscenes are all on CDs.

The compressed .ogg cutscenes are significantly smaller than the original .mve files, so it's really a matter of saving space over the retail solution for those of us with the original game disks.
