I don't really know where this fits so I'll put it here. I've noticed that I seem to be the only one that does much in the way of special effects (and I havent been doing much recently, even though I should be :P). We also have whoever made the explosions and beams for the MVPs, but I don't think I see them around much. I'm just suprised that there aren't tonnes of custom effects floting around, given that all it takes is a little work with GIMP and a few filters, depending on how intricate you want it to be.

I geuss it has to do with frames and getting the animations fluent, or because no one thinks that they can match Lightspeed at it.

There are no official explosions for the MVPs AFAIK.
Have you EVER played with the mediavps enabled? Of course there are new explosions in them.
It really is a shame that they are not embedded in the MVPs though and I wonder if they will be.
They may be. Provided they can be divided into normal and advanced versions. After all, we do have memory usage to consider.

The main ship explosions do need an overhaul. Last I checked, the ones in the media VPs were just DDS versions of the retail effects, and they really stick out compared to the graphical improvements in everything else.
I have actually been using the custom explosions posted on the WCSaga site (IIRC) a few years ago. I think a few others here were doing the same. They look much better than what we have now, but I don't know if we're allowed to distribute them.

AFAIK, the MediaVP explosions use higher-resolution versions of the retail ones.
Except for the one in MV_Advanced. I just don't like that one. It sticks out so much compared to the others...
