I am not a modeller.  I have no modelling program installed.

I did this in fred.

what do you think?

Not too bad, actually. Although you should keep the original images before pcx conversion around; EFF support for CBAnis is just around the corner. No more horrible 256-colour limit.

Not bad at all. Could use a nebula background though.
I've made many of the ASW CBanims by making a mission, then recording from FS and converting.

FRAPs for recording, then VirtualDub for resizing/cropping and exporting to an image sequence, then Bright for converting the sequence to a common-palette PCX sequence.
