Does anyone know if a POF importer for Max is out there, and if so where I could get it?
I have 3ds Max 5 and am trying to pick up where I left off (back in 2004-ish) on a Freespace mod for Star Trek: Armada 2. After I get done with Armada, I may port it to something else, like Empire at War.
While I can LithiumUnwrap -> 3DS and open it in max that way, LithUnwrap doesn't seem to display the lower LODs for an imported POF. Plus, I have to get all the material names under 10 characters, and on destroyers that's a lot of renaming work :P
I love the Freespace license and am trying my best to evangelize it to groups that may have never experienced it (like the RTS crowd). This is the one hurdle I still need to overcome, so any help would be appreciated!
Thanks,
Stalker

i think pcs2 can save to dae and then can be imported to max with the collada import plugin.

I don't think Collada can be imported into 3DS Max 5... I think it can just do Max 7 or greater. Unless there is an older version of it somewhere... any ideas?

Read the guide in my signature. There is an old POF exporter if you search the HLP Wiki....
but it doesn't work exceptionally well.
The guide is slightly out of date, eventually I'll get around to finishing the rewrite.
Basically if you add the collada DAE plugin for Max it should be able to read the DAEs
from PCS2. Which opens POFs.

You really might want to consider upgrading to at least Max 9.0 too, if not 2009.

Check the Wiki, I wrote a tutorial about how to do this...
