Hi there,
I am playing FS2 SCP with MediaVPS now and I don't have voices in the briefings and debriefings.
command briefings (like the one from Admiral Petrarch) work fine and in-game voices + sounds and everything else as well.
Before I was playing FS1 port and STR where the downloader got me the voice files from the server (because they were in English) and there it worked very well.
But my FS2 version is German and has German voices... when I was playing FS2 some years ago I had briefing sounds.
The .vp files from the FS2 Cd's are in the main directory and I guess the voices are somewhere in there. The Freespace2\data\voice subfolders are empty.
So was the FS2 main campaign file changed by SCP and doesn't find my German voices for briefings or
do I have to extract the voice files from .vp files to data\voice subfolders or
does anyone have another idea why it won't work?

Personally, I would suggest getting the english version. It's just better.
As for the problem, please read the support FAQ and follow the steps to generate a debug log. Then post that here.

@The E: If you tell me how without paying again ;)
@Topic:
ok, I digged through the log file and found this
AUDIOSTR => ErrorExit for ::Create() on wave file: SM102_MB_01
...
AUDIOSTR => ErrorExit for ::Create() on wave file: SM102_MB_02
...
AUDIOSTR => ErrorExit for ::Create() on wave file: SM102_MB_03
So the mission voice file can't be found, but now I have to figure out why...
The mediavps missions from FAQ don't fix it and even if I start without MediaVPS I still have so voices there.
In case anyone interested, here is the complete log (without playing, just mission briefing screen) http://www.hard-light.net.pastebin.com/m5f59fcbb

Initializing OpenAL...
Using '0001' as OpenAL sound device...
OpenAL Vendor : Creative Labs Inc.
OpenAL Renderer : 0001
OpenAL Version : OpenAL version 1.1
Have you set the Audio to something different than "generic Software" in the Launcher?
Second, the german version of FS2 lacks a set of VA files; I keep forgetting which one.
-
I did, but thats not part of the problem.
The voices won't play with any of the sound devices and anyway, then I woulnd't have sound at all.
The problem still is that the sound files cannot be found because they are
1. referenced wrong in the of the mission files or
2. not where they should be
and as I wrote, it was working with fs2 classic years ago, so the voice files are there somewhere.
I'm digging through the .vp files now...

Err.
File not found errors look a bit different, you know.
The problem is that there are several possible reasons for why this error appears.

as I wrote, it was working with fs2 classic years ago, so the voice files are there somewhere.
I'm digging through the .vp files now...
The voice files are in stu_fs2.vp, but as we can see from the following line
Searching root pack 'E:\FreeSpace2\stu_fs2.vp' ... 1777 files
your stu_fs2.vp contains 1777 files, whereas a stu_fs2.vp from a working English FS2 contains 2355 files. And I specifically remember someone stating that the German version of FS2 wasn't fully voice-acted.
-
ya, I used QuickVP and the whole briefing directory in stu_fs2.vp is empty
But I was sure I had voices there, hmmm...
Anyone got a link to an english stu_fs2.vp ? So I can have english briefing voices and german ingame voices o.O

If you'd really want to play FS2 that way, I suppose I can upload it somewhere and PM you a link. But, in my personal opinion, if I had to choose between a mixture of languages and partially missing voice files, I'd go with partially missing voice files.

Or GOG it for a few bucks so that if it frustrates you enough, you can just install the full Monty version and not worry about it.
