I just caught a programme called embarassing bodies on Channel 4 and thought i'd take this test (http://www.wired.com/wired/archive/9.12/aqtest.html) for a bit of fun to see how i scored...
15!
But it doesn't tell me what that means..........
-
I got 30, dunno if thats a good thing or not though. :p
Edit: Yep, probably not a good thing.
-
25.
-
Eighty percent of those diagnosed with autism or a related disorder scored 32 or higher. The test is not a means for making a diagnosis, however, and many who score above 32 and even meet the diagnostic criteria for mild autism or Asperger's report no difficulty functioning in their everyday lives.
I got an 8
Basically it determines if you're good in social situations and how well you work with numbers and details. How you do on those questions can be an indication of Autism.
-
Fifteen, but I suspect there is a bias towards some other cultures than my own.
Why on earth should I want to keep a conversation going if it's not happening on it's own? The question "I find it difficult to keep a conversation going" assumes I would want to, or that it is typical to do so. Which it really isn't where I live... it's more likely to gather odd looks and short answers rather than "keep a conversation going".
Other cultural differences include "social chit-chat"... :nervous:
Also, "I like to collect information about categories of things". I mean, sure, I like to collect information about categories of things like life, universe and everything, but does the question put an emphasis on "information" or "categories"? If I just like "collecting" information (although I believe the more usual term is learning), does it mean I should strongly agree? Or does it require me to be limited to certain categories (like, you know, any kind of specialization sort of requires you to do... so if you study veterinary medicine and you enjoy it, does it mean you enjoy collecting information about category of things (animals, their illnesses and their treatment), or does it mean you're a veterinary student? :nervous:
I hate ambiguous and culturally aligned quizzes. :p

I fear compulsive over-analysis is a sign. . . . . . . Of something ;)

What, like studying a science that involves heavy statistical analysis? :p
After a while of doing lab experiments you sort of start automatically doing mental checks of systematic errors and other stuff that could lead to anomalies. In my case, that extends to things like this.
-
24, if i did this 1/2 year ago it'd probably be a little higher.
anyone else notice 2 questions were repeated.
-
I did. . .
But I tried to not let it influence my score :D
-
I did notice, and was tempted to answer differently just to mess with my score. But I didn't.
Got a 17.
-
(3^3 - 3^2) + 9^1/2

It's an indicator, that's all. Just cause you're not the greatest chit chatter doesn't mean you're autistic but the inability to do well in social situations IS a sign of it.
-
18....
That would indicate, slightly above average?
-
26. :nervous:

Yes. :D

Having paired similar questions in psychological questionnaires are usually to check for consistency among the person's answers, but they wouldn't be repeated word for word. Don't know how it would apply in this quiz either unless they were doing a lie analysis of the data.

I'm curious about the questions of easily adapting to fiction, myself?

I got a 6. Now, to find out what the hell this means. :P
-
36, looks like the highest so far.
-
How the hell did you get a six...
-
I'm quite an extrovert? :D
No, but really, I'm a real 'People-Person', I hate staying at home by myself for more than 2-3 days in a row without some decent social contact. And without some decent social contact, Dilmah starts going insane.
-
You may as well be my polar opposite...
-
Oh come on, I don't understand how people can not like large groups of mates and the like. Well, I guess I can understand, but I don't see how it'd be fun. And besides, I'm not that much of a rarity, Darius got a 7. But it's so... Lifeless when you're by yourself.
36, looks like the highest so far.
But that's because you hate people. :D

It means you're too ****ing normal. :p

That seems normal to your?

Indeed it does. Even if it means I have to drag my more introverted friends outside. :P
-
I got 41.
-
Jeez guys. . . It's not a competition

Not until we choose which extreme is the winning side.

Doesn't that tell you something? :p

Hmm...scored a 33, for whatever that's worth. The thing is, there were several questions that I honestly didn't have a strong opinion about either way; for instance, I can't recall exactly how much I liked "playing pretend" as a child. (And what sense does the "theater vs. museum" question make...if I want to see a movie, I probably won't be showing up at a museum, and vice versa if I want to check out an Egyptian mummy exhibit. :p) Also, though I may be biased, it seems to me that many of these factors can have root causes that don't really have anything at all to do with the autism spectrum. I'm a very introverted person by default, and I've become somewhat convinced that I have some level of social anxiety disorder going on, so of course I'm not going to like going to parties and engaging in chit-chat.
-
Score: 26
Had trouble answering some of the questions though.
-
My score does suite me, as I actually was diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome a while back.
-
Not until we choose which extreme is the winning side.
Oh pshaw, how can having no friends be a good thing? :P
-
And in other news, one of my mates got a five. Dayum. :pimp:
-
27, some of those questions were weird. Because I got PDD-NOS (A catagory of autism, also known as... 'the rest'), some of those qeustions were quite familiar.
The test is not a means for making a diagnosis, however, and many who score above 32 and even meet the diagnostic criteria for mild autism or Asperger's report no difficulty functioning in their everyday lives.
I don't think there is actually anything there that impedes on that.

Try expanding yours then. Or at least read up about other things, so when you get pushed into a conversation about whatever it is, at least you have some background knowledge. Works for me. :)
-
I'm kind of afraid to find out how I'd score on this.
-
Bah, can't be that bad. One of my "DONT TAKE ME OUTSIDE. THE LIGHT. IT BURNS." mates only got a 24. You'll be fine. :)

Effing school computers have the score page blocks for 'innapropriate or adult content'...
Meh, i know that I'm autistic.

I got 32. Odd. I was expecting >40.
#13 was hard, since my library IS a party. We have a teen section with a couple of booths I go to hang out with my friends at.

I scored 38.

15... might be some link between low relative score and turning up in person to HLP events?

19, though I know I am an introvert. This test doesn't require me to be able to *enter* a social situation (how to approach someone, how to start a conversation, etc) . It presupposes I am already in one, and I must keep the conversation going.
And how do autism and numbers relate? If I'm good at remembering numbers - which I am not - does it mean I'm more likely to be affected by autism?

Some people with autism tend to be good with numbers, patterns and details. More so than the general population.
-
I think the bottom line is that this simple little quiz isn't meant to be a substitute for an actual psychological evaluation/diagnosis, even for those of us who scored uncomfortably highly on it. While it's true that people on the autism spectrum tend to post high scores on a quiz like this, there are numerous other reasons why one would do so, including being a detail-oriented person or a plain old introvert.
*hopes this doesn't come across as self-denial* :nervous:

Wasn't there a disclaimer on the quiz page saying something similar? We're doing this for fun (I hope). :nervous:
-
Yeah, but when you're already somewhat uncertain about your own mental state, it's easy to read too much into a number. :p

Isn't that the whole point of this thread?

Hey, there's two of us!

****ing extroverts
(j/k)

My sister got 1. Jerk must've read the rules before the test.

I scored a 6.

It's prolly mostly due to the fact that I can be either/or.

If you introverted blokes would get outside more often...

That makes 3
-
Hooray for normal people! :D
-
Doesn't seem normal to me...
3 out of how many so far?
Then again, this probably isn't the best site to base test results.
-
Exactly. I don't know about you, but I don't think 'Normal People' are scared of other people..
-
Heh... I don't normal people need social contact like you.
Anyway, not like it really matters.
-
You're beginning to sound like one of my mates when he's spent too much time indoors. :D
Yeah, it doesn't reaaally matter, and I'm not educated in this field, but I'm quite sure humans do need social contact. Someone with a bit more knowledge is welcomed to clarify.
But really, being socially inept is not a good thing...
-
Score: 28
But really, being socially inept is not a good thing...
Everyone has his weak and strong points. I for one have little trouble being slightely socially inept.
but I'm quite sure humans do need social contact.
Not everyone needs the same amount. I for one am happy enough just seeing friends once every 2 weeks.
My sister got 1. Jerk must've read the rules before the test.
Meh, I could score zero without reading any of the rules. I've been thrown to death with information about autism. It's easy for me to recognise the questions
