Post by: torc on February 04, 2010, 09:21:10 am

Yes, it is possible to replace the HUD. Several mods have done this.

However, I am not aware of any separate HUD packs being released; you may have to extract the HUD from a mod yourself.

BtrL and TBP as standalone projects (and I think also WCS?) have "custom" huds.

I don't recall any non-standalones that used any changed HUD's, but I haven't played them all.

TVWP had a custom one, IIRC.

But to more directly answer the question, I know of no such project that aimed itself solely and exclusively towards providing a replacement HUD.

*cough* FringeSpace as well... although it's not for public consumption yet.

thanks for the answers guys!  :) in any case for replacing the hud needs more scripting experience or is it a doable thing? honestly i'd like to change only the reticle for now with a squared one. i tried to search files in the hud folder but i haven't find anything... can you give me some informations regarding the files i have to search and modify? you have to know that i have tried to search in freespace wiki but i haven't understand how to modify this parameter....thanks  :)

Plz to read wiki page on hud http://www.hard-light.net/wiki/index.php/FS2_Data_Structure#hud kthnx. the retail hud can be found in sparky_fs2.vp and sparky_hi_fs2.vp. Explore these to find out how to change the hud.

Hint: What you are looking for is 2_reticle1.ani. Change that to edit the appearance of the reticle.

You need to use a vp editor to extract the files from the vps. You also need the Descent Manager Tools suite to edit .ani files.

VP Editors: http://www.freespacemods.net/download.php?list.51
Descent Manager Tools: http://www.freespacemods.net/download.php?view.109

Yes. You'll have to use a .vp viewing tool to take a look inside sparky_fs2. vp and sparky_hi_fs2.vp. You won't find much inside \freespace2\data\ .

I've been having a go at making an entirely new hud (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php?topic=67875.0).

If you can't see the images there, why do you think images posted here might show up?

On that note, thread closed due to no longer supporting anything.
