Ati HD 3850 1GB [no more driver updates for this card now]
CPU 3.0 pen 4
1GB ram
openAl 1.1 installed
when ever I use the mediavp in either fs port or FSO the gameplay pauses slightly than continues mainly it occurs when a capital ship blows up [mainly when something big is on screen] or at the start of a mission. almost like something is being accessed. I am just wondering with system what could be causing this it is that is a older AGP system
thanks

Assuming that you are using 3.6.10, then the only answer is that that is a known problem that occurs sometimes.
Unless using a nightly build (or the soon to be released 3.6.12 version of the engine) doesn't fix this, you'll have to learn to live with it until the coders can find out what is causing this.
On a more general note, when asking for support, please look at the Support FAQ. It mentions a list of details you should tell us when making reports like this. In addition, a debug log can never hurt, and can frequently serve to uncover issues that you didn't even know existed.

we still have no idea what causes that? I thought we did some profiling a while back to help find it.

Try updating to a 3.6.11 nightly build from the Nightly Builds header over in the Source Code Project subforum. Should solve it.

Is is possible to delete the log and play the game and the log will be rewrote? I just want to start clean before I send this out. I have played to many times I think this will be large.

Every time you run a debug build, it will write the log to \freespace2\data\fs2_open.log. If the file already exists, it will be overwritten. You don't need to remove the old fs2_open.log if you want to create a new one. Just run the debug build.

yes I am using the 3.6.10
well I was wrong about the graphics card driver for my ati HD 3850, today I found a hotfix 10.1. AGP catalyst suite which installed just fine.
When I play FSO with all the eye candy and my in game graphics settings were set at the highest they could and so the pausing was still there seems to be worse, so I lowered the graphics to high. Now it seems to be gone and the game launches faster now too.
I will play the debug build in a few days once I look up how to do it
