Title: Re: DVD 2.0 - Do you have content?
Post by: IPAndrews on February 06, 2010, 04:47:17 am
Why ask? If you want. Just take. I mean this in all seriousness and with no intent to flame. The whole have HLP, lead by yourself and Fubar, has already demonstrated it doesn't respect the work of moders and their ownership of that work. There is no code of honor here. If you possess the old files and you want to use them , use them like everything else. If you want the updated BHX hack into my machine and take them. No point drawing arbitrary lines that will not be crossed

You would have to finish POB though. Mission 3 sucked anyway. It was a concept that turned into a disaster of boredepic proportions when executed. Shame because mission 1 and 2... eventually... rocked fairly hard.

Actually the issue here has always been the fact that you claimed ownership of every single asset you have changed in any way. Thereby showing YOU have no respect for the modders who came before you and their ownership of the work.

You were asked to point out which assets were 100% yours so that they could be removed and you never did. You were asked to make versions of the assets available which hadn't been touched by you, you never did.

So quite how you expected anyone to do anything other than simply pull the entire game is beyond me.

I see. So your logic is that I might have done 95% of the work on a particular model but because someone else did 5% of the work that means the month of so of work I spent on it actually counts for nothing? Tell me is this just your public argument or do you actually, sincerely, believe this kind of behavior is morally correct? Because to me it just looks like you've stolen the work of two people instead of one :).

Seriously guys. Everyone knows what happened and they will decide if they agree with what you did or not. Most people here agree with you. To me you will always - with the greatest respect for your past work in every case - be thieves. SO there's really no point us going through this again.

I do reserve the right though to make fun of you in a friendly joking way occasionally :P. No harm in that. We're all adults here.

No. But it means that if you want to have your work removed from the mod you must ensure it is only in cases where you aren't infringing on someone else's work.

Let's take the opposite case. Suppose someone did 95% of the work on a particular model and then you came along and did the last 5% of the work after they left. Should you be able to claim that just because you did that last 5% you now have the right to say the entire model should be pulled? Should you be able to tell the modder in question "Well I don't have your original model any more. Sucks to be you"?

Furthermore did you actually ever tell anyone before they did that last 5% of the work that you reserved the right to pull the model? What about if it was a 51/49 split in your favour? Did you actually tell anyone "Go ahead and work on my model for a month but I reserve the right to say at any point in the future that you wasted your time"?

Cause it seems to me that if you didn't then you really should have. I doubt many people are willing to work for that length of time knowing that their work could be pulled on a capricious whim.

I'm going on the assumption that everyone who worked on this project wanted their work to be released. They wanted people to enjoy the game. They wanted to see it improved upon by the team.

If they didn't then you are on pretty shaky ground to have edited anyone else's work.

Yet when someone else does the same thing to TBP assets you didn't originally start you claim that because you have worked on them you can pull them. Did you ask the original modder for permission to do that?

It's all very well going on about morality as if this is a black and white issue but the only assets you can make a claim to speak for are those which are 100% your work. Which is why I asked. Everything else is shades of grey.

In which case I reserve the right to call you a credit-stealing cry baby. :p

Wow. Touche  :shaking:.

Really there's no need for these convoluted and contrived exercises in excuses and logic twisting. You've won! You took what wasn't yours, you got away with it, you did what you like with it, demonized the opposition, and persuaded everyone to agree with you! Epic win!. As I said to your trained attack dog with the silly name beginning with "a". Well done. Pat yourself on the back. Now sit back, have a glass of wine, and think about all the good things you did. Be proud man. Be proud.

See, this is exactly what happened last time. You claimed everyone was a thief and denied them any chance to give you your stuff back. You simply said "I've worked on everything in TBP, so you must pull everything"

The only confusing thing about it is why you decided to come back here and do it all again? Have you been training in some Tibetan monastery in the arts of internet arguing all this time? Were you waiting until you were sure that your forum-fu is finally strong enough to take on all of HLP?  :p

thanks IP , for yet another attempt to belittle me , attack dog ...; well thats a pile of crap, what am i , well im a fan , not a badge holding TBP member, i help a little by spending my free time bug testing the corrected errors that you made ( i say you as you have claimed ownership of everything)
im not here to defend the scp they make there decisions based on what they see the future of there project ( ie the code) i just want to play the game thats all and if a few hours of testing and debugging stuff can make that a better experience for myself and others thats great ...

so please crawl back under your rock and give up ....

Well to be fair, you are a little bit aggressive :). But at least you're direct and say what you really think.

Nah I just adopted Derek Smart as a role model.

You did it wrong. You should make 90-line posts where you repeatedly EMPHASISE certain words with capital letters and call other people role-players. And declare yourself asa PH.D alpha male.
No wait. Derek Smart was actually rather cool when he came back to HLP.

SO there's really no point us going through this again.
SO why are you going through this again? Repeatedly.

Yeah fair point he was damn funny  .

Yeah I teased them a little about their actions. It was done jokingly from my perspective but they keep dragging out the conversation by asking me things! I should try to ignore them. Thanks for your input. Cool name. Anything with Vader in gets a  . Mainly I came back just to be nosey and see what was happening here. Turns out. Very little.

Heh, it's a long story :)

All I'll ask is that people stop banging heads over this, I think we've got to the point where IPA has his take on the matter, HLP have theirs, I don't think the two are compatible, and I've developed, over the past few months, a very definite opinion of the point of two diametrically opposed opinions colliding on this board, to quote Heart to Heart, "It was Moider!". It involves much output and little input ;)

oh, hey! crazy's back!
hi crazy! (http://warpstorm.com/forum/Smileys/warpstorm/wavey.gif)
how you been?
have you claimed ownership of the human race on account of the fact that some of the atoms of carbon you've ex-hailed have likely been incorporated into the bodies of every man woman and child yet?
how about being made leader of a mod project? has anyone decided to trust you to not claim there work as yours and then not allow any further work to finish it even though they donated it with the understanding that the project would strive to perpetually improve, in other words throwing all of there hours of work away? no? gee I wonder why....  :blah: hmmm... it's a mystery.

Hmm.... So you call Fortune Hunters "chapters 2 and 3", Earth Brakiri War, Dark Children, The Black Hand, Drums of War and several mini campaigns and single missions in addition to what the people of Zathras did, very little? Or did I get the time of your split with the people here wrong?

Sure under your leadership the TBP team did make some nice progress at times, but there were also long stretches of time with very little progress. It happens on fanprojects....
I think considering the circumstances they did quite well.
