I have recently acquired Fraps :nervous:, and I'd like to record some FSO videos, but I am having a couple of problems.
1. The audio and video is out of sync. The audio is slower than the video.
2. When there is any voice, it often starts to stutter.
Specs:
WinXP 32 bit SP3
1Gig DDR2-800
AMD [email protected]
Nvidia 8500GT
Any fixes would be greatly appreciated.

you need moar ram
-
FS2_Open by default sets the process affinity to CPU1 in dual core processors (dunno what it does with multiple-core processors). That means you'll want to keep that core clean to run the game, so set fraps.exe affinity to CPU0.
As to sounds being out of synch, you'll have to fix that in a video editing program such as virtualdub.
I also concur with Nuke's judgement that you preferably need moar ram and would like to add that it's never enough.

Problem is, my board supports only up to 2gigs...I am saving up for a new PC right now, and spending money upgrading this one isn't on the agenda.(maybe if I had a job yes). Thanks for the help, I'll see how it works out

For some strange reason, RAM is very cheap (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820134065), at the moment. I'd recommend spending ~$25.00 now, because odds* are that the market will be less kind in a few years.

CamStudio has an audio-delay feature. FRAPS probably has one as well.

you have to run the game then manage to have enough resources to act as an audio/video buffer while fraps waits for hard drive time (which it would get plenty of if there wasnt a whole lot of swapping going on). when your resources get low you kinda have to dip into the swapfile for virtual memory, and fraps doesnt write its buffers to disk as fast as it wants to, so it tries to allocate more memory for buffer, you run out and it goes for the swap file. performance is lost and it cant keep up with the stream of data coming it.
you could try disabling mediavps and free up some ram, that might let you record without as many gaps.

Try Debut Video Capture if FRAPS doesn't work out. It's free as well so no... acquiring required.
-
PM me your motherboard make/model, and your home address, and i'll have 2GB RAM sent to you
-
You could also record to an external drive, freeing up some of your HDDisk(s) resources.
-
recording the movies to any disk without a swapfile might work too

Press CTRL+ALT+ESC
What's your commit charge? (Bottom right) An extra gigabyte will probably help that situation out significantly.

thanks for all the replies guys. And my commit charge is 480M/2458M

Hmm.... try downloading iobit's (www.iobit.com) GameBooster (actually, I'd recommend downloading Smart Defrag and Advanced System Care Free from them, too).
See if this gives you a significant boost. (I have been using them for quite some time, they are EDIT: very good.)

thanks, I'll try it tomorrow

Thanks for the link, it helped out a lot performance wise

 ;)
