Title: Idea: StarFox MOD
Post by: Culando on April 11, 2002, 11:02:45 pm
Wouldn't this be a 1337 MOD? I think so. ^^;

I'd even be willing to try making a campaign using such a MOD, but I'd need someone to make the models. I have the player's guide and it has pics of almost every ship. Here are some ships we can have and I have pics of. I'll scan them if anyone is interested in helping. =)

The names are from the Player's guide, so unless you have it, you won't know what the hell I'm referring to 'till I scan it. ^^; Which I'll try to do tomorrow.

Fighters:
Arwing
Blue Marine (could be made a bomber)
Corneria Fighters
Bill Grey's Fighter
Granga Fighters
Wolfen I, II
Invader I, II, III
Canine
Borzoi
Tripods

Cruisers:
Attack Carrier
Meteo Crusher
Dorisby

Corvettes:
Grazan
Saucerer
Harlock

Destroyers:
Great Fox
Saruzin
Zeram

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH... nintendo is invading! :D

Seriously, cool idea. Only problem/obstacle is the linear missions of StarFox and how we'll port them well but that's for another day. It'd be wonderful to see this get off the ground :D (the models in SF are relatively low-poly/easy to model, no?)

im all for this one, i'd thought of it myself on many occasions.  I dont recommend using the see level stuff or the Blue Marine, that just makes it worse.  It should be all space battles.

The Star Fox 64 missions (which is the game with the Blue Marine sub) aren't completely linear. You could take different paths to the end of the game and what levels you passed through varied depending on your level of skill and some events. A lot of the levels are planet based though so you'd probably have to make a almost completely new campaign. Hmm. A D3 Star Fox MOD might be interesting, even though this isn't really the place for it.

No, no I'm saying that you could only proceed in one direction for most of it... in FS you can go in all directions at varied speeds...

Ahhh. That. If a Star Fox MOD is made, I think that would be better left out. :)

Free range mode!

Starfox (Lylat Wars in the Uk, but I have a US console)was/is great...not sure how well it would translate into Fs, though.

Are you going to keep the low polygon models from starfox or are you going to improve them a bit? :)

What about the GAMECUBE one?

Sheesh, we don't need a whole mod; gameplay is totally different. D3, maybe, FS, no. What we can make is a few models. The Arwing, the StarWolf, and some of the Venom cruisers are quite possible, low poly, and they look cool.

The GameCube Starfox isn't exactly what I call a space-sim. It has some flying in it, but it isn't a key component of it.... so I'd rather see people stick with S64 because that was a dedicated space-sim... Not that we couldn't make it based on the GC Starfox... but it's not out yet so.
By the way: GC starfox ships would have high poly counts  because due to standardization of hardware often video game companies can make high-end games..

SWEET!  I loved that game!  You gotta put in the Arwing, Wolfens I & II, Venom Cruisers, maybe even that boss from the Asteriod Field (Rock Crusher?  I thought it was cool).  Oooh!  Even some ships from Sector Y would be great!  The possibilities...muahahaha!  (P.S. Venom, I have yet to find a decent N64 emulator...PM me. :D)

It's sort of an aciton game now, isn;t it.

BTW, the GC X-wing in Rogue Squadron is something like 300,000 polys - it's the CGI model used in the special edition remakes.

Oh - and i'd want the ships from the big independence day battle. (I think it was on the medium loop, 2 or 3 missions in)

Project 64 is the best one I`ve used. Works fine for playing Starfox. Can`t remember where I got it from though.

Her... before you d/l it:
WARNING!!! emulators can ruin your life, I d/led one for gameboy a couple yers ago, a week later, my HD was filled with emulators and roms, and my friends were looking at me like if I was mad, as I was playing Golden Axe and other stuffs that "looks crap next to Metal gear Solid or FF8"
bwah. Young consol freaks ;7 ( who said I was an old PC freak??? )
anyway, the result: no social life AT ALL (I mean it) for a month... An heavy desintoxication cure followed...

Wow, I didn't expect this many replies.

The idea for the MOD isn't to recreate the game, just bring the ships in. Sure, we could try recreating Meteo or the levels right before Venom.

And I can't do the models myself. ^^; It was just a suggestion. I can supply pics of the ships though.

This isn't one of those things I can quietly steer off into an umoccupied corner and shoot, is it?

Such is life... I'll just sit here and tell you how it'll never happen 'till it quietly dies like the rest then, eh?

I think that fairly depicts my opinion of ports in general. You've got free time, make something new, for Bob's sake! If you lack an imagination of your own, do drudge work for me or one of the others!

It's true...

Heck, even Chrono Trigger alone put me out of it for almost half a year... :D
