Title: I've Found a Real-life Candidate for Tau Sigma System
Post by: terran_emperor on February 09, 2010, 12:55:19 pm
[Maybe this should go in the Wiki Section]

Al-Niyat. The Name covers the asterism formed by TAU Scorpii and SIGMA Scorpii.

And if that's not enough, Al-Niyat has the Correct Number of Stars as shown in Derelict.

Tau Scorpii: Bluish-White B-Type Dwarf

Sigma Scorpii: Quaternary Syste,

S-Scorpii A: Bluish-White B-Type Giant + Yellow O-Type
S-Scorpii B: B-9 Dwarf
S-Scorpii C: Type Unknown

The one problem with this Theory is that Tau Scorpii is ~305ly closer than Sigma.

BUT - Sigma has FOUR Stars. So Derelict is likely set for the most part in Sigma Scorpii.

Since Al-Niyat refers to both Sigma and Tau, It doesn't take much of a Stretch to turn that into Tau Sigma

Thats the one. On the Wiki entry, there was speculation that it is

Quote
Fictional system; created by Derelict team, possibly confused with real-life Tau Ceti

I've always throught of the Tau Sigma System as Al-Niyat (Tau And Sigma) Scorpii

I always thought it was just a case of the person who named it not having a ****ing clue how star names work.
