[20:58] <redsniper> Olympics
[20:59] <redsniper> Seeing how happy Lindsey Vonn was made me dawww
The 2010 Winter Olympic Games are going on and we're not talking about them. Let's talk about the Olympics.
I watched some speed skating and women's downhill skiing just now. Who knew Koreans were so into speed skating? I guess it's that and Starcraft. And the announcers were making a big deal about how one of the US skiers was using men's skis. What's the difference? I thought they were all just boards on your feet. You'll have to pardon my lack of knowledge concerning winter sports, we don't have winter where I live.
-
Speaking as an archer, the South Koreans are also known for their phenomenal archery skill. But it's not a Winter Olympics sport, sadly.
See here for their skill: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZcNY2t0h-HE

If Starcraft were ever to be made an Olympic sport (will never happen, but whatever)..... well, let's just say we know which country will win.
Anyways, Men's Snowboard Cross was very entertaining.
-
Halfpipe. That's where it's at.
-
no tv :(. or time to watch for that matter. i'd mostly be interested in snowboard, a little bit of skiing, and hockey. i'm gonna try to stream some stuff if i can ever get out of the ****ing lab at night.

Hey! We won something.
Seriously, rest of the world. When an Australian beats you at the Winter olympics, you're probably not trying hard enough. :p
-
We kicked arse at the stones though. . . Curling or whatever it's called.
Plus our combined ski female is hotter than all of yours :p

As Stephen Colbert puts it:

I must admit though the wipe outs in women's downhill looks pretty much the same as a rally car accident. I mean it's about the same speed on roughly the same track and there are all sorts of debris flying this way and that while the person bumps and rolls across the landscape for about half a football field length. Mad props for getting up after something like that.

Oh, inorite? That was some pretty intense looking stuff, but no serious injuries apparently.

USA! USA! :D
-
Given that we're the host...our athletes are doing fairly well for themselves. We have a few golds on some key sports for us. Looking good for Canada! Go Team Canada!
-
Ski cross is crazy.
It's like they decided downhill wasn't dangerous enough so they turned it up to eleven. Hell nearly all the events are like a tour de force in danger.
I must admit Winter Olympics > Summer.
-
if anyone can hook me up with a replay of USA v. Canada hockey, i will love you.

is there the full game somewhere on there?
-
What a sack of ****, seriously if it was the men's hockey team they wouldn't say a peep. But oh, a few girls smokin' cigars and drinking in celebration and the misogynistic jackasses come out an whinge. Seriously blow it out your ass.
-
Sweden just narrowly beat Canada in Women's Curling.
Le sigh. Them Swedes are nimble.
-
i'm still at a loss as to how curling qualifies as a sport, and is worthy of international competition.
-
Honestly, you pretty much have to be a Canadian to appreciate it. Why it doesn't bore the hell out of me and my friends I have no idea.

Skicross is actually quite safe. The speeds are fairly low and the jumps, while often pretty technical are not that big. Falling still hurts though...
And winter is always better than summer, although only by a little bit.
EDIT: NO red, they are not all just boards on your feet. Not. At. All.
-
screw NBC. all the sudden they decided to pull most of the hockey replays off the website, and restricted access to those remaining to subscribers of certain cable companies. NBC IS FREE TO AIR BROADCAST. wtf.
i even HAVE one of the cable services listed, but hell if i know the login crap it wants.
2 days ago i was free to watch whatever game i wanted, now this? :hopping:
*giant middle finger to commercialism*

Oh ok. Well whatever you do, don't explain the difference to me or anything.
-
hot DAMN we are going to overtime!!!
-
Ugh...I loathe that little scumbag Crosby. First a Cup, now a gold medal. Blech.
I mean, it was a fantastic game and all...but why the **** does it have to be him winning it? :p
-
That game was ****ing incredible. I don't care who won it, it was the best hockey game I've seen since Calgary went to the Stanley cup finals in '04. Hell, it may have actually topped that.
-
i dunno. USA-Switzerland is pretty damn close.
-
But Canada wasn't in that, so it really doesn't inspire the same maniacal patriotic pride.

It topped it by a ton. It was an amazing game.
