Title: Naumachia
Post by: Colonol Dekker on February 22, 2010, 02:49:19 pm
It means 'naval combat' in ancient greek apparently.

But if you look here (http://naumachia) you'll see it's all about a return to space combat simulation roots with none of this resource collecting or stat building nonsense.

Discuss.

based on the demo trailer

good graphics
like the how it looks like you can play either cockpit + hud, hud or 3rd person (hope non of it is forced)
fluid looking combat
was that Newtonian physics going off their?
Hud looks a little busy without knowing exactly what all the little squares mean

all in all interesting to see what happens

Looks similar in concept to StarShatter in many respects, albeit much prettier.

and looks like it might be "funner" combat as opposed to SS's respectable, but occasionally frustrating 'realism'
mainly this opne has more guns and close range fighting as opposed to my typical missile fights and cap ship strikes that were full salvo at 50km in starshatter

Older trailer in the media section looks more impressive for whatever reason.

It would seem that the game's primary focus is on multiplayer (it's not MMO though). Single-player campaign is planned. And apparently modding is not high on their priorities, sadly.

Am I the only one that noticed the kick-ass Descent music rip-off?

I liked the older trailer too. More colorful, and (although the music did sort of remind me of Descent (@BloodEagle: I even thought of that before I finished watching it!)) better-fitting music.

big thing i notice is the bloom filter is gone from alpha to beta
okay, and the HUD colour
the palettes appear to vary based on  "map", most of that beta footage is in a blue-green nebula or something, which washes out pretty much all colour.

Lack of single player makes me sad panda.

Limit of 16 on multiplayer makes it hard to believe this will be more engaging for multi than Allegiance.

16..?
i thought it was higher, like 32 or something.
:sigh:
then there's even less reason to play it over eternal silence/allegiance/starshatter
