I just bought FS1, Silent Threat, and FS2 from EBay, and they're currently in the mail. As I haven't been following these games for very long, the number of missions, campaigns and mods is just overwhelming. Although I plan to finish the official campaigns first, what are your choices for the must-have user-made campaigns, missions and mods?

The Babylon 5 Project Demo was nicely done, but its only a demo. Derelict, even though I havn't played it yet, sounds good from what people have said. The rest of the good ones are still in development right here at HLP.
And alot of the lesser campaigns (I only say that due to their lack of mods, not fun factor) are based off the main FS2 campaign, so yes, it would be good to finish that first.

Thanks for the welcome :).
Although I tread carefully, I still sometimes pick up story references. My technique to combat this is to try to find something that totally confuses whatever impression I got of the story and then leave the thread (or whatever). That way I'm just confused, rather than enlightened. :D

Well I`ve always thought the end of freespace 1 was really poor. A giant space RABBIT eats the shivan fleet! I always thought it was a bit of a cop out. Hope I didn`t spoil the plot for you. :)
Seriously though I think we do need to be careful on this board about spoilers. Now that the VBB is gone more newbies will be coming here. Some of them won`t have played all the games.
On the VBB a few people tried putting in spoiler warnings and avoided putting major plot points up as topic titles (I`ve lost count of the "Why did the shivans ***Censored*** in the last mission of FS2" topics I`ve seen).
It didn`t work very well on the VBB but hopefully people on this board would be a bit more considerate.

If you know anything about Robotech/Macross (or you just want to fly a semi-transformable plane that looks a lot like an F-14 Tomcat, and was used to make Jetfire from Transformers) you should check out the Robotech MOD. Not much mission wise yet, but it's got interesting stuff you can fiddle with in FRED2, including the only ships I've heard of that "transform" ;7 (Two player flyable and two non-player ships, all with the same basic design but different color schemes, can transform from a plane to a plane with arms and legs, also known as Guardian/GERWALK mode.) It's the MOD that really got me interested in FS2 modding period. And in stretching the limits of FRED2's SEXP system. ;7

As for mods and add-ons, I would suggest the Awakenings campaign for FS1 and Derelict for FS2.

Play Silent Threat and be saddened, for mission design is terrible and there is an anticlimax. Hate the Seraphim for it is your enemy. (Headz 1:9)
Let Freespace 2 be your way and your life. Live only for Freespace 2. Rejoice in the beams and hi-res, and take comfort in the nebulae. (Bosch 12:87)
Through FRED only missions are made, and missions are made only through FRED. Fear not SEXPs, and you shall survive and be happy. Thou shalt not FRED without beams free. Remember the objectives and use them well. (Sandeep 5:20)

Here's an interesting idea - play FS2 once without the reg hack, then when you feel happy and impressed play it with the hack. Really cool difference :)

I assume you mean the registry hack to increase texture resolution. I'm not sure if that would make any difference, because I have a fairly old video card, but I'll try it anyway. :nod:
