Title: POFdview update to version 1.3
Post by: Sparks on May 12, 2001, 01:14:00 pm
If anyone has been using my program POFdview to look at the data arrangement within a POF file, I've updated the program to version 1.3.

You can get the latest version from http://home.adelphia.net/~rdelinsky/downloads/POFdview13-release.zip (//"http://home.adelphia.net/~rdelinsky/downloads/POFdview13-release.zip")  .

Take a look at the readme file for what changes have been made. http://home.adelphia.net/~rdelinsky/downloads/readme.txt (//"http://home.adelphia.net/~rdelinsky/downloads/readme.txt")  .

Hi All at HLP!!!
Yes another nuubie

The links seems to be dead for this util.
Tried in Internet Archive but no luck bah!!

Anybody got version 1.3. I am leaning modelling and this tool is great (version 1 that is) to help me understand POF's.
I have got Turespace3.2 as a freebie lastweek and am attempting to unlock the crazy interface.
Any help would be most welcome.

Nuube signing out!!

Welcome to the HLP Station. Exits are located to the right, left, up, down, and 4th-dimensionally. However all of them are blocked, except the 4-d one, and so far the only way to go there is through an event horizon. In the event of a landing of any kind, you can and will be used as a flotation device. Do not feed the resident Shivan Carl as he will become voracious and chew your leg off. You can find him in the ventilation duct. Throw him your lunch and he'll leave you alone (usually). Flamethrowers can be found under your seat but due to financial constraints have been refilled with holy water, use them only to kill vampires. Plasma rifles can be found in storage lockers. To prevent act of n00b, however, these can only be opened by Moderators, Volition, GOD or a hyperintelligent shade of BluE, and in very rare cases the president of Bosch beer. Please remember that any attempt to use the ASCII characters 0046h, 0053h, and 0033h in sequential order will result in you being trampled by FreeSpace fan boys. If you go in the Vasudan section of the station and find a box labelled “Headz”, please don't open it. Thank you and enjoy your stay!

(I would beam you but, I don't know how.)

Omg that MUST be a record. Since this is more or less outdated should this be locked?

For modeling - you can use most any modeling program. Truespace is usually used at the second to last stage, as conversion software.

If you haven't bumped into it before  Karajorma's Freespace FAQ at http://homepage.ntlworld.com/karajorma/FAQ/intro.html (http://homepage.ntlworld.com/karajorma/FAQ/intro.html) may be a good place to start.

Comments.......

Water many thanks for the FAQ page I will soon be able to make a cube with one turret that I can shoot at in FS2!!
No sarcasm intended I really am that crap at modelling.

Colonol Dekker I have Aurora (with source code as well) and segeltuch-0.3.4.
You can have them if you want.
My impression of Aurora...
Quite good at rendering you can actually see the model textured as in modelview32 (I've NEVER been able to see a textured model in any version of PCS on any of my computers!!!  BAH ), cannot see editable subsystems and paths etc. Modelview32 is better.
My impression of Segeltuch...
Very new!! Quite good interface but dodgy display, wireframe lines disappear at various zooms etc. Have not tried editing models.
I use Modelview and PCS (so far anyways).

Thats all I can say about these tools IMVHO

Still no info for me on POFdview1.3  :( :(
I bet someone like Kazan has it. He has mentioned it in a few of his mails.
Shall I ask him??
What do yall think????

pofdview is more for advanced debugging of pof files. it pretty much shows you everything as far as data structures go. its useless for moding unless you need a tool to figure out where the problem is in a buggy mesh. even then its data would probibly only be usefull to more advanced modders. but with pcs2 in development, this is definately a good program to have for debugging of pof output code.
