1 problem....very irritating....and universal almost...
It doesn't seem to matter what version of the SCP I use, but any of the mods I try to run from here it likes to show me errors from the ships or weapons tbls that I'm forced to open and remove the problematic parts just to make them run... IE
For 'GSbspcRiftExp', 3 of 4 LODs are missing!
<no module>! KiFastSystemCallRet
<no module>! WaitForSingleObject + 18 bytes

<no module>! RegisterWaitForInputIdle + 73 bytes
got this error when trying to run Inferno
others would gives errors about the: $ND <numbers here>
I'd have to remove those since those dont appear consistently and another had to do with a typo in a ships table info
I'll get them after hitting RUN and before I even get to the pilot splash screen
earlier today i downloaded 3.6.12 and have started to use it
EDIT: just tried FSPort...got to the pilot splash screen find but the moment I chose one i got this
Assert: bm_bitmaps[bitmapnum].handle == handle
File: bmpman.cpp
Line: 1103

You're running the debug build instead of the release build. Did you do this because of other errors in the mods? The Assertion for instance would never appear in a relase build.
-
Those are caused by weapon explosions not being in weapon_expl.tbl. Or at least that is one cause.

i dont think I've ever had a mod that didnt give me errors...sadly...
if I use the 3.6.10 the errors dont look like that one...which I was using the v 12 release not the debug
did a retest and got
ships.tbl(line 3761:
Error: Required token = [#End], [$Subsystem:], [$Name], or [$Template], found [$Default PBanks: ( "GTVA Rapid L].
<no module>! KiFastSystemCallRet
<no module>! WaitForSingleObject + 18 bytes
<no module>! <no symbol>
<no module>! <no symbol>
<no module>! <no symbol>
and
ships.tbl(line 5584:
Error: Expecting int, found [BFSilv )].
<no module>! KiFastSystemCallRet
<no module>! WaitForSingleObject + 18 bytes
<no module>! <no symbol>
<no module>! <no symbol>
i hit OK and more keep popping up
when trying to run INFERNO again (this after the table tweaking)
tried running INF Alliance and
ships.tbl(line 5584:
Error: Expecting int, found [BFSilv )].
<no module>! KiFastSystemCallRet
<no module>! WaitForSingleObject + 18 bytes
<no module>! <no symbol>
<no module>! <no symbol>
then on the pilot splash screen it says the FSO has generated like 23 warnings and/or errors
got 45 earlier when ran Blue Planet (the older release not the newest one)
I'm thinking I might just have to redownload all the mods I have (well that will blow to hell my satellite internet FAP)...or reinstall

You know what would be awesome?
Your fs2_open.log: (possibly the most important thing ever)
fs2_open.log is a file generated by debug builds. It contains all sorts of useful information that we need in order to help you. That is why you should follow the instructions below and provide us with that file when asking for help. Creating an fs2_open.log happens like this:
- Download the recommended build (link is in the first post of this thread) if you haven't already and place the .exe files to your \freespace2\ folder.
- Switch to windowed mode (open the Launcher, open the Features tab, select Dev Tools from the pulldown menu and tick on "Run in window").
- Select the debug build (fs2_open_3_6_10d.exe) and run it. If you've been experiencing crashes, do exactly what you've done previously, up until it crashes.
If you have had other issues, it is sufficient to run it until you get to the Main Hall. If the debug build crashes fatally even before getting to the Main Hall, no worries.
Note that warnings and errors are not the same thing. Warnings are there to tell that something is a bit wrong, but not fatally wrong. You can skip warnings by clicking "No". Errors are more severe and if an error occurs, you really have to quit the game. - Quit the game.
- Find the file called fs2_open.log from \freespace2\data\, copy it to a safe location and deliver it to us by using one of the following means:
- include it to your post as an attachment (click Additional Options when posting)
- include it to your post using the "code" tags
- send it to pastebin (http://pastebin.org/) and provide us with the link to it
-
like this then?
i deleted the old log just in case and ran FSO 3.6.12 in a seperate with the Inferno vps

You need FS2. You know that, right? At the moment you only seem to be running some Inferno files.
-
originally i was running it as a straight mod from my fs2 folder...only did it using an isolated folder to see if that helped...i guess not
the following is from a fresh log (deleted old one first) using the 12d and attempting to run Inferno....as said before I basically never am able run any mod without being bombarded by errors which im forced to hie OK on numbers of them just to run the things...

I don't think that log is from 3.6.9, 10, 11, or 12 inferno builds.

EAD: Please delete any debug_filter.cfg files you may have, then run the debug build.
Also, please follow the installation instructions found here: http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php?topic=47640.0 to the letter. You have been ignoring them in the past, it is time for you to learn how it's done.
-
I'll go through that post and try to follow each and every character. ---- After Read: I read through the post and checked...I do have everything laid out as said. Having the 1.2 patch...I'm almost positive I had already patched it but after all this time wasn't sure...but when I run it...it says CurseClient Setup needs to download 1 of 1 files. (Why is a World of Warcraft addon downloader part of it?)
@The E - I ran a search to make sure I didnt overlook it and I don't have a debug_filter.cfg anywhere. Additionally I DO have everything installed where it should be (all files that should be in root folder are there....mods are in their own). That's how I've been running it all this time.
@Fubar - That log was from me running 5.5e Launcher and the 3.6.12 INF debug build. I deleted the old log so a fresh one would turn up.
@Vader - I DO normally run it from the folder with my FS2 in it. I only tried running the launcher from within the INFERNO folder to see what difference that made. Obviously that didn't work out.
I checked and my media VPs were on the outdated side so I got the latest ones I could find here...just in case using the old ones was a contributing factor.
So far only Blue Planet, Terran Vasudan War, and Into the Depths of Hell, arent giving me problems. Regular Inferno keeps pointing to table faults (I fixed most already but the rest elude me)...INFA has models and sound effects missing when I know they're there...FS Port is missing the main hall now...splash screens for almost everything say I have such and such number of errors...
YES my FS2 somehow got fubared since a year ago...which was when last played FS2 I only had minorly annoying issues.
I apologize for not knowing each and every action to take to ensure the debug build works properly by heart. A lot of people on this site I'm sure are techno savvy....I'm not...I can make no sense and thus cant fix on my own any errors beyond table issues. Even FRED is still alien to me and I've owned FS2 almost since its original release. It also doesn't help that for long stretches..only just came back to FS2 after leaving it sit for a year...so anything I might have learned goes the way of the dino so need be re-learned. It's almost never that I have errors but when in that past I have had them, they are only 2 or 3 and I just tolerate them and hi OK...just last night I kept getting error after error where I used to never get them or didnt get anywhere NEAR as many.
I'll try to compile a complete log of the errors I'm getting....if that helps any. I hate it when mods that other people never seem to have issues with...when I install them they never do even when installed correctly.
constantly getting error after error is getting very grating ... might just leave FS2 for another year even though its my favorite flight sim game

The one thing you could do is to go here: http://www.spadixbd.com/freetools/jdirprint.htm
Download that tool, and let it generate a fully recursive directory listing of the contents of your FS2 directory.
That, and of course running the debug build with one of the mods that is giving you trouble, and posting the log here.
After Read: I read through the post and checked...I do have everything laid out as said. Having the 1.2 patch...I'm almost positive I had already patched it but after all this time wasn't sure...but when I run it...it says CurseClient Setup needs to download 1 of 1 files. Whaaa? Where the hell are you trying to get the patch from?

wat
No real FS2 patch would do that. For a reliable option, try this (http://homepage.ntlworld.com/karajorma/FAQ/Downloads/HotUv1.20Pack.rar) (ignore the name; the files are actual FS2 1.2 files).
@Vader - I DO normally run it from the folder with my FS2 in it. I only tried running the launcher from within the INFERNO folder to see what difference that made. Obviously that didn't work out.
Please do what The E described.
Also, some FreeSpace basics:
- all retail FreeSpace 2 .vp files (that is, .vp files that actually came with FS2 or the real 1.2 patch) belong in \freespace2\
- all .exe files belong in \freespace2\
- each mod should and must be in its own subfolder under \freespace2\
- unless you really know what you're doing, nothing belongs in \freespace2\data\, except the \freespace2\data\players\ directory that contains your pilot files, and possibly \freespace2\data\freddocs\ that contains FRED documentation, I guess.
-
The patch I used was one I used before and unless somehow it got corrupted from sitting in my downloads. Both the years-old patch and a replacement...how it happened now doesn't matter atm now. I'm downloading the one in the link.
I wasn't doing the 'stupid' troubleshoot from the data folder anyway. Was doing it FROM within the INFERNO folder itself with its own launcher and FSO...it didnt work obviously so that just proves my ineptitude.
Each mod IS in its own folder...when I first came to the SCP I'd run mods by juggling the necessary VPs into the base FS2 folder until I had too many to be doing that and actually realized what the Choose Mod was for.
I made 2 different logs (these are after patch). 1 is Inferno. 2 is INFA. If I hit NO to go into debugger it will give more errors. If I hit Yes...FS2 crashes (the logs are from those).
The directory listing: Inferno/INFA, FSPort, and I think 1 other gives serious errors. TBP B5 only gives minor ones (this is otherwise a problem free one) that I can work around since it just involves improper ship weapons for certain triggers (I'm slooooowly fixing this)...since I thought it'd be neat with vanilla FS2 run with Babylon 5 ships.

Turn off TBP and Saga features in the launcher since you aren't running those for starters.
