Title: Modifying "ships.tbl" file
Post by: StargateSpankyHam on March 16, 2010, 12:29:36 pm
I recently downloaded a few extra spacecraft for Freespace 2. Unfortunately, it requires me to copy data from a text file and paste it into the ships.tbl file, which I cannot access.

I have found several websites indicating that there is a program designed to open the .tbl files. Does anyone know where I can download an XP-compatible version from?

I honestly thought there would be a sticky that answered this question...

Actually, uh, I'm not sure the Wiki is very clear about this.

You'll need VPView32, but modular tables are the way to go here instead of direct ships.tbl editing.

You need a program called VPView32 (there are others as well, but thios is the one I use) to extract the table files from root.vp, then edit them in notepad. Or use modular like battuta said - this is detailed on the wiki.

Oh, and be aware, downloading new ships doesn't automatically add them to the game, only to FRED. You'll need missions designed to use them.

Yes, I'm aware. I'm getting fairly good at using FRED.

You're using SCP right?
