Title: Passive ships, docking, and fighterbay spawning...
Post by: StargateSpankyHam on March 17, 2010, 09:56:15 pm
Ok, i am making a mission (possibly the first of a short campaign) and I have a Ravana-Class Destroyer that is heavily damaged and abandoned. I need it to sit there and do nothing, at least until a transport docks with it.

Oh, that's my next issue: There seem to be no docking ports on the Ravanas! Would it be difficult to make a GTT Argo dock to a subsystem...say, the fighterbay?

That brings up yet another question about fighterbays in general. During some missions, fighters continuously spawn out of subspace to replace those that are destroyed. How do I go about doing this? And could these fighters instead spawn out of a fighterbay on a capital ship?

Thanks for the help!

Did you do the walkthrough? Most of your questions will be answered there. But you're right about the ravanna not having any dockpoints - make your transport an elysium (Argo porbably wont fit)and tell it to depart via docking bay (It's in the drop down under hyperspace) on the Ravanna, in ships editor. Then, obviously give it a depart order rather than a dock order.

Otherwise, do the walkthrough :) It's under help in FRED2

All the arrival and departure cue settings become greyed out as soon as I put the ships in a wing. Is there a way to launch wings of ships from a fighterbay?

The detailed mission walkthrough only covered them warping in from subspace, not spawning from a fighterbay.

Use the wing editor.

Finish the walkthrough that'll definitely clarify. It does indeed explain ship departures.

Aside from that good luck on your project. ;)
