(sorry if this is the wrong forum, fell free to move)
Just wondering, after reading the discussion on modifying an existing engine for the Fs forever thingie, what other game engines could you see the FS universe being created in?
i.e. FPS- both single (RF mod, obviously) and squad-based mods
Echelon-type engine / modifed FPS -ground (flight) combat mods
Flux (I-War2) - free-form universes
Database - Starship manager ;7
RTS - duh.
and er.... well, i dunno. Just hunting for ideas of what kind of thing you;d like to mod FS stuff into.

I've been thinking for a while that Freespace could be converted to a FPS in the Serious Sam engine, Vasudans, Shivans and all. With that engine, if the right people who knew what they were doing were in on it, you could literally have zero-grav environments, Shivans bouncing off walls, subspace portals - heack, I'd even make the attempt to fully model the inside of Everyone's Favorite Ship™, the Orion! Think of the possibilities!
As for other arenas, RPG might work if you get a good storyline that is both personal and epic. RTS would be awesome in something like the Homeworld interface (wasn't that tried partially years ago with FS1?).
An I-WAR2-type free-form universe would be absolutely AWESOME at this point, especially considering all the new ships in existance. Just think of eeking out a living as a freighter pilot as the GTVA battles it out with the NTF around you... :cool:

I've been looking at modding Falcon 4.0
THAT would be perfect for an atmosphereic one.
The whole environment is dynamic, tank batallions wil move around, fight. Other aircraft fly around, perform their missions. A lot of stuff like that. The only thing is, we might be stuck doing it in Korea :/ (where Falcon 4.0 takes place)

Actually, I think the best base for a Freespace FPS would be AvP2. Come on, just change the model of the Alien and you have a ready-made Shivan!
Okay, you need to add a plasma cannon to it, but the rest is perfect - jumping, walking on walls and the ceiling, etc. Everything's done, we just need new models!

A Freespace FPS would be really neat (i.e. taking the role of a commando squad when trying to capture a transport or something); I think there is a project going on for this, right? They should use either the DX engine due to its awesome single-player gameplay capabilities or wait for U2 to come out and mod that. ;)
A Perseus Racing (or Horus Racing) game actually wouldn't be too bad... :D

How about Combat Flight Simulator 2, for the atmospheric flight?
Also, I'm re-doing the Freespace 2 MOD for Homeworld, so there you go, RTS!:D(there's also one for Cata, you freaks! :p ;))

Also, I tried to start up a FS MOD for UT, but it failed, due to the fact that it was utterly impossible to find all the tools I needed...:(
