Post by: utops on March 23, 2010, 01:58:05 pm
With re-release half of the campaigns not working anymore. I can tell its new mediavps issue, because year earlier i can play all of them on older version without major crashes.

Uh, indeed. The MediaVP system doesn't work like the FSO build system. Sets of MediaVPs are released relatively rarely and there are never two sets with the same number (ok, there was a Beta release of the 3.6.10 MediaVPs but that doesn't count and I wouldn't recommend them for you). 3.6.8 is the previous release.

Thx, I check out 3.6.8 and eventually give a word how it works for me.

Just don't complain if newer campaigns, which are built for the 3.6.10 mediavps suddenly stop working.

So for you im  just a stupid clueless whiner?  :p Its okay this is common altitude for community support staff   HEHE

To be more specific.
Campaigns that work for me on 3.6.10 builds and mediavps as pair

Warzone,Pandora Box,STL,ST:R,Transcend,Sync,All Blaise Russel Campaigns, Sf-Junky Campaigns, Inferno with SCP patch.

Campaigns that give hard errors similiar to this from my PI post
The Apocalypse Vega, PI,Into The Depths of Hell Chapter 5: Hammer Falls.

I just wonder if somebody with nowadays SCP setup can run this campaigns without any problem, if yes, let me know.
Probably authors "most make an update"

Um...everyone with the current MediaVPs and SCP builds can run those campaigns without any problems.  As has been explained to you in the past, there's some sort of problem on your end that needs solving.

Nope, I belive there is a very little group of players and most ppl here are coders, graphic artist and FREDers

Hey i reinstalled freespace 2 twice and download whole mediavps setup 3 times and errors stays with me.
Year ago when i looking for indie spacesim (vegastrike?) i discovered that my favorite game is still alive and with whole new upgrades and tweaks,  everything works back then, check yourself, my post year ago was only whining about unbalanced gameplay or eventually request for tips how to be succesfull on actuall gameplay.
Now i can`t play some really good campaigns because of strange errors pop up on me but one different thing back then and now is new mediavps re-release. That make me doubt that problem is on my side.

Can you run a Debug build and post the log? (Look in the Freespace game folder, data/fs2_open.log)
- You can attach it to your posts here.

It's very hard* to work out what's gone wrong without this detail - it's not even worth trying to guess the problem tbh.

*read 'practically impossible'

There is a very simple rule that can be applied here: If you are the only one having issues, chances are the error is somewhere on your end.

Since noone else seems to be confirming these issues you are reporting, I would have to say that there's something wrong on your end.

Also:

I don't think that's true. There are way more people playing campaigns than there are campaign creators.

Again, I really doubt that.

One of the fundamental laws of tech support is that the customer is almost always wrong. No matter how much the customer tries to be right, he probably isn't. In this case, the situation is as follows: You experience a few problems with your FS2 install. It happens, we've all been there. We ask you for logs, which you provide after some time. We try to make a few stabs at fixing them, going on the assumption that your installation is screwed up in some way. This is based on our own experience with the campaigns you claim are broken. So far, so normal.

What is not normal are posts from you like this:

Damn.
This sucks, when your mood depends, on game, or favorite tv show or pizza when somebody or some events make it bad and unenjoyable anymore.
There is not something wrong with me, but with that multitasking orders, or scan 1211231 cargo and in the meantime, you must disable wing of freighters and of course all wingmens are dead already.

Im tellin the truth...
try run Destiny of Peace on current Fsport and fs2_open_3_6_12r_sse2.
Broken,void..such a superb campaign broken. Kaputt

Quit making it, because probably something be missing.
Just like in others campaign...
yeah
take this build scp take inferno build take nightly, stable svn etc etc and there is slaways something missin

probably this doesent work such as Destiny of Peace Aeos Affair and others.
**** always something...missin
ship missin,weapon missin, dick missin...
****

I want the name of the guy responsible for mission redesign!
I have good mood this evening, really great and i was thinking ; wow cold element universe campaign - great i never play this one yet. First mission ok, Second fine, Third WTFF!!!
i cheat in this one,Second of the II chapter !@#%#@!@#$%^@#$
So where i can send dead horse head?

All of which can be seen as blatant trolling.

However, this will be the last time I will post in response to something you did. I am quite confident it can only get downhill from here.

Was drunk back then and i belive those post you quote here are irrelevant to the matter of my actuall problem. Ofcourse my bad.
Problem seems to be my Polish version of the game so i must make it english by overwrite some of retail files, so if somebody provide me those file it will be voliation of EULA or somth?

There's very easy way to get english version of FreeSpace 2, buy it. Costs $6.

There's even easier way, download Twilight (I promise that it's completely unrelated to that Twilight): http://freespacemods.net/download.php?view.425
Inside the .vp files, you should find a file called "Strings.tbl" .
Extract it to data/tables (main or in a mod folder, extracting it to main data/tables will change the language of every mod you play, as well as retail), then open it up and change the word "#English" to "#Polish".
There was one more free method, but it was complicated and involved messing with system files.

Oh, Polish. That explains it.

I can't help but get suspicious when I see someone with bad grammar come in and start posting. Makes me think they're fake or something.

Then it's always just someone who's native language isn't english, and so I feel like a jerk.
