Title: OT-Reference sites for weapons...
Post by: delta_7890 on April 14, 2002, 08:09:22 pm
No I'm not about to start a rebellion or anything.  I'm writing a fanfiction, and I'm in need of a few websites listing various Real Life weaponry.  Everything from pistols to portable SAMs.  My appreciation goes out to those who assist me.

Go to your local library and find a copy of Jane's Weapons Systems.

It'll be a massive freaking book, but it'll have absolutely everything.

Hrm...thankies!  *ponders a PDF version in existance*

Hrm...a bit out of date (published in the late 80's).  Anything else perhaps?

Late 80s should be fine, unless you really want the bleeding edge stuff.

I've heard that the Jane's book on the USN have information that the USN has never released.

Well, it's a Metal Gear fic so...top of the line weaponry is a must, especially since the MG timeline goes beyond present day (The shadow Moses facility was built in 2002, and the events of MGS2 took place in 2009.  I doubt that weapons built in the 80's would still be used by the forces depicted in my story (army Rangers, SpecOps units).  As it happens though, I already found a site listing the websites of nearly every gun manufacturer:

lol - I've fired that thing so many times... And GET IT RIGHT, PEOPLE! IT'S A 52mm MORTAR, NOT A 51mm!!!

It is, really. :)

It has an effective range of around 450-500 yards; the kick-back is half a ton, and it's quite portable by one person. Of course, if you want to increase the range significantly, use a 60mm mortar (the site has managed to forget to include that one. ) - they have an effective range of ~2km.

For around $16,000(lastest fiqure i heard) i think they might of invested in weight reduction somehow. Still its probably a special ops gun too expensive for normal inf. The gun literally looks out of Aliens Vs Predator with its fancy computer sites etc.

Oh, that wouldn't be a problem. They always have the best gadgets over there... The only thing is, if you want to get any explosive-based weapons (grenade launchers, stinger missiles, etc.) you'll need an ID, and must be over 18... :D
