(Call me lazy if you want for posting this topic on here instead of on the EA forums) I've got a problem with C&C Generals on Windows Vista: I can get it installed, but I can't get it to run. For some strange reason, every time I try to start it, it says it cannot run because of a serious error occurrence due to the system specs not meeting the requirements stated on the box or due to a virus on my computer. For one thing, I've got a Levono that has 3GB of RAM, a Pentium Dual-Core processor , and some Intel video card that is capable of running HALF-LIFE 2 on moderate ,so, yeah, I can run it. I also don't have a virus on my computer, so that's two for two in my favor. Can someone tell me what is going on? Do I need to get StarForce Drivers?

You could have at least put this in the gaming forum

Eh. Didn't think of that. :warp:

"It can run HL2 on moderate settings" doesn't mean much. The Source engine is very flexible in its Hardware demands, and will run on a wide variety of chipsets.
C&C4 might just be out of an Intel GMA's reach.

I'm not trying to run C&C4 (I want to wait until I beat 3 [which can also run with fairly decent quality] and its expansion before I move on). I'm try to run Generals. Generals was made back in (I guess) '01. I'm not trying to run it through First Decade, just through a deluxe pack.

Oh, right, Generals. Sorry,
Well, have you tried EA's forums?
-
I knew you were going to ask that. I'll go check...
Actually, I can't seem to find the game on EA's site. Instead, I can only find First Decade. I'll do a Google search...

Vista wouldn't let me install a lot of old games
-
Well, it's not installing that's the problem. It's running. I just installed it and tried downloading and installing the updates for Zero Hour, but I got to the same place as before: the splash screen showed, then the screen flickered, and then the error showed.
EDIT:
OK. Just tried the original Generals and it ran up to the in-game shell at the main menu (the point where I pulled the plug since the sell is, again, in-game). Why Zero Hour won't run has me baffled.
Wow. This is...UBER embarrassing. As it turns out, the problem was with, not only the first Generals, but with Zero Hour as well: all I needed was the update to both! I feel like an idiot. :warp:

When I installed Zero Hour, I didn't need to update Generals, only Zero Hour.
EDIT: Can anyone tell me why I posted this?
