Is this possible? I've recently began toying with modding my Tiberiun Sun game and fouond a 3ds to vxl convertor for models.,..but it only looks for tga texture maps.
Ideas?

Well when you run a ship through Pof2cob or 3DE, the texture files are automatically converted to the correct format. I thought that 3DS used bmp, but both bmp and tga are bitmap formats (ie. they store each file pixel for pixel) so I guess it should be able to handle both.

Can I do this? Make a model in 3D Studio Max. Textured already. Save it. Use 3D Explorer to convert to COB. Then use COB2POF to convert it into FreeSpace format and the skins are still okay??

Do you really need 3D explorer? I'm not sure but I think Truespace 4.2 can load 3ds files and still have the textures right.

You're going to need TS4.2 for that.

Nope. I'm using 3ds3 and max to model and map, then I use Truespace 1.0 (yep, the fisrt one lol) to convert the 3ds files to cob, then here we go (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif) And it works perfectly. Btw 3ds uses lots of different pic format, it uses uv mapping (in a much better way than TS). And I really think making model with 3ds is the best way (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/wink.gif)

I know that you can use a whole lot of diffrent textures in 3DS Max. Ranging from avi to tga. But if 3DS accepts TGA are a diffrent thing. I really don't know, but I think it would work.

Both MAX and 3DX support Targa files. And 3DX converts them automatically.
