Title: Command Briefing Animations?
Post by: Systematic on April 09, 2010, 10:45:17 pm
Where do I get the Animations to use in my command briefings in FRED1? I click the browse icon for Ani Filename but all the folders are empty!!!! Which directory do I get the animations at/where do I get them at? After all, a command briefing isn't complete without those animations on its side! :(

They're packed in the FreeSpace retail VPs. You can use VPView to view those files and learn the CBani filenames. You'll need ANIView to look at the .ani files themselves.

In the FRED/Command Animations section are the names of all the animations that shipped with FS2. Simply pick a suitable name and type it into the box.

VPs? What do you mean VPs? Which directory is this in? Missions, data, player? Also keep in mind that THIS IS FOR FRED 1
(ONE)(FS1 NOT FS2)!!!! Thought I would re-mention that just incase that changes anything.

They're in your core FreeSpace directory.

Chill out.

Do you mean like root.vp? When I try to open that, I get the infamous : "Windows cannot open this file....to open this file, Windows needs to know what program to use to open it." Bulls**t :(

Reread my above post and you'll see why. You need a special program to open the file.

Also please refer to Kara's post above.

Given that we've all been using it for more than ten years, I think you can probably trust it.

You should probably just download VPView (http://www.descent-network.com/cgi-bin/download.cgi?file=/descman/modules/vpview.w32/vpvw20b5.exe&desc=Descent_Manager_VPVIEW32_V2.0_Beta_for_Windows_95/98/ME/NT/2000/XP&size=641) and see for yourself. They're in the VPs named tango#_fs2.vp.

We didn't include them because they're not in FS1. :p

The animations are tech_tpilot, tech_vasudan, and tech_shivan, and they are all tech room animations.  For some reason tech_tpilot is also duplicated as cb_tpilot.  However, all tech room animations can be used as command briefing animations despite not being in the cbanims folder.
