Title: Locking the Shield Power Settings
Post by: NGTM-1R on April 10, 2010, 10:14:22 am
Is it possible with the current engine to lock any individual part of the power gauges for shields/engines/guns, or place limits on how much power can be diverted between them?

This idea came to me with the possiblity of trying to portray a different kind of shield system from the GTVA's, one that's absorbative rather than ablative so you can't just dump more power in to get it re-radiating faster, but I can also see how it could be used for balance or flavor purposes to create hard settings on certain ships.

Couldn't you just minimize or eliminate the effect in ai_profiles.tbl, then remove the hud gauge in FRED?

[EDIT] But yeah, I see your point, that would be a useful feature to have.

sexp-wise it would be done I think ... though Im not sure
at least you can use the how much energy you put into one system as trigger for an event (I did that once to create a Stealth-mechanic for Minbari fighters in TBP; that was of course long ago... and would not work with a current version of TBP)

There are no Sexp's for the EWS system as far as I know...
