Some Iraqis say the soldiers take special pills that keep them cool, but the most common theory is that they have portable air-conditioners -- usually said to be inside the vests, but sometimes placed in the helmet or even the underwear.

I saw a show on Discovery a couple weeks ago that showed how any regular digital camera can be tuned int a camera that can see through some objects. All it involved was removing the inferred filter from the board and installing a filter over the lens. Took the guy only a few minutes to do. It could see through plastic (they showed it viewing through a cell phone to show the circuitry), some clothing, etc. Couldn't see through dense cotton though for some reason. Also made all the security features on money show up.
