Title: In the beginning. . .
Post by: Eishtmo on April 15, 2002, 07:15:51 pm
History of the Milky Way Galaxy

The First Golden Age - ~100 Billion YS - ~89 Billion YS*
Or ~14 Billion YAR - 3 Billion YAR**

At some point some about 12 billion YAR, the first races began to touch the stars.  They advanced in spurts and starts, and after a few billion years, reached a level of technology that would remain out of reach of the rest of the universe for billions of years to come.  The wars these races fought were devastating, and after a particularly deadly one (supposedly several races were wiped out in one battle), the most advanced races decided to stop this mess.  They created the Galactic Treaty and the Keeperage system.  The Keepers were tasked with ensuring that the Treaty was obeyed and bringing the younger races up.  But knowing that they couldn't live forever, the Ancient Keepers (as they were called) created special "seals" where their most powerful technologies and ideas were locked away behind a code.  These seals were then passed down to the younger races that the Keeper felt would weld the power best.  The system didn't work very well, and after peaking 3 billion YAR, the Keeperage system collapsed from 500 races to two.

-Robert's History of the Universe, 2nd Edition

The end is coming, which side will you be on?

* YS - Years Short of the End of the Universe
** YAR - Years Ago from Today

In the beginning.... God created the Earth... and Volition-inc. But then the evil forces of Hell, lead by el diablo - THQ, killed God and stole his wallet.

No vadar, it goes like this:
In the beginning, Todd created the Volition sites and the VBB. Now the VBB was forumless and empty, defaults were spread over the controls of the board, and the Account of Todd was hovering over the Admin CP.
And Todd said, 'Let there be forums,' and there were forums. Todd saw that the forums were good, and separated the forums from the others. Todd called the forums 'Freespace 2' and 'FRED', and the others he called 'Volition' and 'Tech Support'. And there was Support, and there was Freespace 2-the first forum. (Volition 1:1-1:6)
:D

Actually it refers to the thread story I'm trying to get going.  You know, modest amounts of hype and such.  Future ones will sound better, I had a bit of inspiration.

And WildWolf (Todd) didn't have jack to do with the creation of the vbb, he came in long after.  KNOW YOUR HISTORY!

what were the two races? how come the system collapsed? what happened to the other 498 races? what sort of technology was it?

and am i asking totally pointless questions, the answers to which might be found on another thread?

Thank you.  I'm working on a gathering place as I type.  I'll post a link as soon as I can.

The two races (without giving much away) were/are (depending on when you live) the Pylars and the Krytons.  The rest met many different fates, some died of disease, war, apathy, civil war and some just out right disappeared.  No one, not even the Pylars and Krytons, know exactly what happened to them all.  And there weren't 498 races, there were lots more.  Many would pass down the seal to younger, supposely worthy races.  That's where the system broke down, the choices they made were outright bad.

More to come, in a bit I hope.
