Title: Closing of VBB not considered news
Post by: ZylonBane on April 15, 2002, 07:45:47 pm
Check Volition's (http://www.volition-inc.com) news page... apparently Volition doesn't consider the summary execution of the VBB to be newsworthy. Sheesh.

Well being there's still a LINK to the VBB...I'd say no don't expect the V site to get an update soon.

He was most likely fired, or assimilated into another job at THQ

It's not. Since we all knew it was coming, where's the news? Who cares if the VBB closed. All anyone here ever did was whinge and pule about it.

Why is this an issue?

Because its where the majority of us are from.  Think of it as a sentimental value.

Step back a moment, reread this, and attempt to grasp what's wrong with it.

Oh nevermind, I'll explain-- By your mallogic, no news outlet should cover anything that people already know is going to happen. Sporting events, award shows, elections, cosmological events... nada. After all, "we all knew it was coming, where's the news?".

dangit... a kazillion controls on this topheavy posting interface, but not one PLONK button!

Most game developers don't update their sites very often, but this is just pathetic. :p

Because it is the Volition Bulletin Board is run by Volition and the closing of said board should be noted on their site?  It's news, no matter if you consider it news or not.

Hmmmm, I always thought the reason they closed down the VBB was because they stopped caring.  In all honesty, it really wasn't much more than redundant topics that had been covered fifty quintillion times and complaints about V.

http://www.hard-light.net/vwbb/showthread.php?threadid=5839

That's what he's doing. Also, all the THQ naysayers should have a look in here, Daveb makes mention of the anti THQ sentiment that's been brewing.

Note though that daveb conspicuously vanished as soon as the thread turned toward RF and its various... problems.

PS-- "plonk" (http://www.tuxedo.org/~esr/jargon/html/entry/plonk.html)

I noticed that as well; Bobboau is right on the money there, unfortunately. This kind of thing is why I have almost no respect for the company anymore; they simply ignore any complaints addressed to them, and from what daveb said there, the problem appears to lie within Volition rather than THQ. (this lack of support has been there well before THQ as well)

Thanks to Black Wolf for the link - I've posted news on this to hopefully clear things up, although I must echo a lot of peoples dis-pleasure that  so little information has been forthcoming from the company... still, life goes on.
