As the title says, if the player has beam weapons he can spam friendly targets endlessly and will never turn traitor
Is this intended behavior or a bug?
-
Maybe this has to do with the way damage from beam weapons (typically) doesn't count toward kills? I think there's a flag you can set (possibly an ai_profiles flag though) that changes it... which might also change this.
-
Player beams have always counted toward kills (at least as long as I've been around) if they are mounted on fighters or bombers. The only issues were with Gunships like the Whitestar and Drakh Raider. I'm pretty sure these even count now by default if fired from a player ship. The flag controls if beams from cap ships count toward the kills so that you can't destroy a Ravana by firing one Treb at it and it getting annihilated by beams from friendly caps.

i find rapid fire weapons that cause little damage tend to cause traitor faster than hitting a ship with a big warhead every once and awhile.
-
Yeah; is it even based on damage caused? I kind of figured it was by individual hits. I've hit ships with big weapons, no big deal. Fire off a few seconds of morning star though and you're hosed.

thats because you spilled the admiral's coffee :D

It's definitely not intentional but I'd need a player beam I can use with retail data in order to solve the issue. If someone will stick the bug in Mantis along with a tbm for a beam that only uses files available in retail data I'll fix this one pretty quickly.
-
Indeed. It's definitely a bug.

use cheats to give yourself a beam?

Are we talking about having a beam cannon as your primary or as a turret mounted on the ship (for example, replacing the Kayser on the Ursa)?
-
primary

That may not trigger the bug due to the fact I was using cheats. For a proper test I need proper conditions.
-
hmm. Well, I tested it using cheats (with Spoon on IRC)... I'll slap a "player allowed" flag on an AAA and test it tomorrow. Need some sleep now though.
-
Well apparantly Geek is nub and forgot his mantis password, guess I'll stop being lazy and throw it on mantis then.
-
I said I'd test it, not mantis it. Besides, I've got so much stuff to do between now and next Tuesday I shouldn't even be posting.
It still happens with the beam mounted without cheats btw

threw it on mantis
