Title: open source engine packages
Post by: gavilatius on May 01, 2010, 02:01:15 am
what type of open source installer package is good for a guy that wants it all in one package? there are so many to choose from but i don't want to link up to the internet to get to install it. (and does it come with tools to modify it? if not, where can I get the modification programs?)

thanks...

btw, is there anyway to increase the size of you wing (from 4-6 to I don't know... > 20)

:wtf: What exactly are you asking and why exactly are you asking it in FRED Discussion? If you mean FSO, go to the Source Code Project board, download FSO from the one stickied RELEASE thread there (it would be 3.6.12 RC2 at the moment) and voila. If you meant something modding-related, there's the FreeSpace Modding board just above FRED Discussion. If you meant something FRED-related, do say so before I move this thread.

Let's see, there's plenty of stuff you can "install" that comes from FSO and related things.

It would be better if we knew exactly what do you have already installed, so let's start with that.

nevermind I got hip 63's offline installer... but thanks anyway:)

oh quick question, can you increase the size of your wing (# of allied fighters under your control)?

No you can only have 6 ships in a wing.  You can use waves and additional friendly wings.

Now I'm joining Vader with the  :wtf:

Do the walk through then come back with questions if you still have them.  This is basic stuff.

You worded the question in a rather difficult manner. I, for one, didn't understand what you wanted. Also, I'd view asking two very different questions in the first post as a breach of etiquette. The FRED question? Ok. The FSO question? Should have been asked either at General FreeSpace Discussion or the support board. Why? It helps keep things organized and makes sure that people who can answer the questions are most likely to find the thread.

Apparently you already installed FSO, but for the sake of informing: click the "Getting started" link at the very top of this thread. Scroll down to "Installing FreeSpace Open". All the good options are there. If you want everything everything, hip63's package is probably the best. If you want pretty much everything, ShivanSPS's pack is good. If you want up to date stuff automatically, Turey's Installer. If you want things that work and aren't afraid to do things, manual installation.

All of the options require that you have Internet.

Like FUBAR said, there's a really good tutorial included with FRED2, so... go to "HELP -> Help Topics" inside FRED, that should do it for now, if you have any questions after finishing that tut come back here and we'll help you out.
