Title: Force Feedback Not Functional With MediaVP's on
Post by: infinty221 on May 20, 2010, 01:43:35 pm
What the title says. When I turn on the MediaVP's mod in the most recent launcher (3.6.10) the game looks much better but the wonderful force feedback effects cease completely.

I'm on windows 7x64 using a Microsoft Sidewinder 2 with the drivers that auto installed when I plugged it into USB. It's installed to D:\Games\Space Sim\FreeSpace2\. All the launcher settings are correct. As soon as I ditch the MediaVP's mod the force feedback is completely functional.

Couldn't find anything in search or the stickies, anyone have any suggestions?

Edit: It's the CD Version, not GOG

Please create a text file with the name debug_filter.cfg in the \data folder. Paste the following into it:
Code: [Select]
+General
-parse
+Joystick

Then run the debug exe again, once with, once without mediavps, and post the logs from that.

Done, thanks for the prompt reply and your patience. I've noticed also that the force feedback DOES work with VP's on while the game is windowed, the same is true of fs port with VP's's on. I've included extra logs accounting for this also.

Not sure if it is relevant but the debug filter appended on a number of other lines after running the game aside from the three I pasted in.

Thanks again!

There seems to be a code issue here. We will investigate this.

Oh, one question: Does this same issue appear with the 3.6.12 Release Candidate builds?

I checked the build I retrieved from here:

http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php?topic=68944.0
(Inferno Windows Build)

And I had the same issue, VP on while fullscreen kills force feedback, windowed works, fullscreen with no vp's works.

I've been able to reproduce this bug with a USB gamepad (detected as generic USB joystick, stated to be compatible with HID, whatever that means), in Windows 7 64bits.

Driver data:
Provider: Microsoft
Date: 21/06/2006
Version: 6.1.7600.16385

(Which is odd, since I do installed the developer's drivers from EuroCASE)

Launcher:
FS2 Open Launcher 5.5e

Executable:
fs2_open_3_6_12r_INF.exe

Directory:
D:\fs_open

The following table summarizes my findings:

FullscreenFull WindowWindowed
MediaVPs ONNONOYES
MediaVPs OFFYESYESYES

This is from the CD version too.

Logs attached.

NOTE: I'm not interested in the force feedback at all. I'm just leaving this data here in case you find it useful (but of course, let me know if I can help you in any way).
I'm going to doublepost so I can attach two more logs.

EDIT: I think my executable is RC1. I'm not sure.
I downloaded it from the link in the BP:AoA the Director's Cut release.

Link:
http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php?topic=68213.0 (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php?topic=68213.0)

EDIT2: BIG mistake in the table. Now fixed.

Two more logs.

EDIT: Just in case someone accidentally doesn't notes it, I edited the original post twice.

EDIT2: I don't know why, or if it's normal or not, but debug_filter.cfg now contains this:

Code: [Select]
+General
-parse
+Joystick
+SHADER-DEBUG
+Error
+BmpMan
+Paging
+Network
+Sandeep
+BmpFastLoad
+Sound
+SEXP

 :wtf:

I clearly remember I pasted exactly what The E said we should.

This has been mantis'ed as issue 2208 (http://scp.indiegames.us/mantis/view.php?id=2208). It'll be looked at.
