I came across this perfect drydock While surfing for models but i can't convert it(As i am a newbie),Can anyone convert it for me as my try did'nt go very well.
Here's what i did:
1.)Converted the model into Truespace cob using "3d EXPLORER".
2.)Imported in pcs 2.
The second Part didn't go as planned and i ended up with a flat model that resembles nothing like original.
(The cob seems right in 3d explorer,i did some renaming too but no use.)
If you convert it can you please post the procedure as well.
Download the file HERE (http://www.scifi3d.com/downloads/Star_Trek/Star_Trek_Model/drydock%28MAX3%263DS%29.zip).
I would also prefer if you remove the annoying ship in the middle or whatever it is.

Ouch. Took a quick look at it and it's not even in pieces just boxes, lines, circles, etc. No where near conversion ready.

as i said i am not a modeler.in fact i don't know the first thing about models.so what do we do to it to be conversion resy?sorry for being such a newbie!
-
I'm not a modeler either but I do know it needs to be combined into chunks for conversion. Seems as if it's set up for a render not for use in game. Has a bunch of lights that will need removed for starters.

Well thank you for the comment,I honestly didn't know that.
I guess i should look into already finished models!!
Do You know any drydocks Other than whitehall.(I already have it and currently rescaling\retexturing it)
If you haven't seen whitehall you should see it.
Does anyone know a campaign where whitehall is used,it constructs a worth looking repaire station??

I didn't say it couldn't be done just something that would take a lot more time then a normal conversion.
-
Ok a quick look at it. Here's what i can tell...
There is a ton of cloning in it... luckily whoever made the max file kept the symmetry. So that's good.
Also there's not a huge ton of big wide open areas/polygons so texturing the pieces shouldn't be that difficult. Mind you there's a ton of pieces though.
The greeble panelling on the bottom of the top could probably be removed and use normal mapping instead with a ton more detail.

Well,Scooby-doo how much effort wil it take and is it worth the effort??

Word of advice:
If you're not going to learn how to model and limit yourself to my level then stop trying to work with models of that calibur. Anything from sci-fi meshes.com or the force.net (liek that model's read me says it came from) are RENDER high poly quality.
What you want are Game quality models, especially if you're doing it yourself!
Basically you have a model that has about 10 times the amount of polygons you actually need and can handle.
Instead of trying to work with it and poly reduce it sufficiently and struggle to maintain a certain level of visual quality you might as well DL the rip off version from a luddie pack off fs2sector (Trek section)
After all that model is a ST drydock (Francisco class I think) obviously... Even though it was posted on a Star Wars site.
I think there was one in the pack for under 2k already in pof form. You'll have to look for it yourself I don't remember which fed pack its in and want nothing to do with those mdoels. I got associated with his bull**** and it tarnished my rep a little in Trek circles for a time.
Here: Page 3 & 4 have all the Fed packs Luddie uploaded. I think he has 1-2 Drydocks in them. I really don;t remember as I lost eh one I personally converted myself.
