Title: [SOLVED] Help.... Please (GPU driver troubles)
Post by: I3litz on June 01, 2010, 11:33:57 am

I really, really, really want to play this game lol. I used this installer, http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/topic,42854.0.html , followed this guide, http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php?topic=61606.0 and I still cannot get it to work. I originally installed the game and down loaded FREESPACE OPEN SCP 3.6.10 OFF-LINE INSTALLER & FREESPACE OPEN CAMPAIGN PACK v2.0 and it would just open the Launcher over 100 times. SO i deleted all the files re-installed Freespace 2, then followed the above directions, when I try to play, it simply says "Freespace has stopped working" windows is checking for a solution.
I messed with the open gl, switched it to direct 3d and back again, messed with the MOD options, tried every combontaion of settings to boil it down, and still I get the "Freespace has stopped working" error.
System specs are :
OS, windows 7 ult.
proc, 955 deneb,
4 gigs ddr3 ram
Radeon HD 4770

Can you run a debug build (ends in -debug or -d), go to your /FreeSpace2/data file, and post the FreeSpace2 open log file?

One will be generated even if the executable is crashing.

It will give us the information we need to solve the problem.

Could you do the "Your fs2_open.log" part described here (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php?topic=56279.msg1180359#msg1180359)?

Edit: What he said.

And I assume you have OpenAL installed, right?

I've never heard of a "FreeSpace 2 has stopped working..." scenario related to OpenAL not being installed. Everything is possible, though.

Code: [Select]
Initializing OpenGL graphics device at 1280x1024 with 16-bit color...
Please set the colour depth of both your desktop and in the Launcher to 32 bits. Also, make sure your graphics drivers are up to date and installed correctly.

Code: [Select]
Searching root 'f:\' ... 3 files
Searching root pack 'f:\tango1_fs2.vp' ... 32 files
Searching root pack 'f:\tangoA_fs2.vp' ... 0 files
Searching root pack 'f:\warble_fs2.vp' ... 52 files

The CD can be safely removed from the drive.

I messed with the open gl [...]

Judging from the log file, your FSO fails to correctly initialize OpenGL. How much did you mess with it?

Kay, moniter is 32 bit naturally, set the launcher to 32 bit, ejected the disk, still no glory, here is the new f2s_Open.log
Now I did forget to mention the OS is win 7 64 bit, does that make a difference?

All I did was switch it to Direct3d and back again, ^^

Shouldn't.

In FSO builds after 3.6.9 it doesn't matter which one you select in the Launcher: the game engine will use OpenGL.

Try uninstalling and reinstalling your graphics drivers.
