Title: List of Campaigns that Continue the Main Story
Post by: Bonehead on June 05, 2010, 08:45:10 pm
I want to play through every single campaing that picks up the story where it left off in FS2, especially those that feature constructing a portal back to Sol.  I am already aware of Blue Planet and Inferno Realease 1.  Can someone give me other recommendations.  Again, I am especially interested in campaigns that feature reunification with Sol.

Thanks in advance

Those are about the only two that have a reunification with Sol and are worth playing.  All the other campaigns are either released but crap, or good but unreleased.  (Blackwater Operations is the most notable campaign in the second category.)

For generic campaign recommendations, there are plenty of threads on the subject.  Do a search.  Here (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php?topic=62287.0) is a good example.

Procyon Insurgency and Derelict both pick up after the FS2 campaign left off, but I don't think eather of them even mentioned reunification with Sol.

I don't think he cares if they're "worth playing through" or not. He wants them ALL. :D
(Hey, I kinda do too, it'd be nice to have a list)

Well, I'm just really intrigued by the story.  And since there won't be a sequel to this game anytime soon (from what I've read) I was just curious how did different people think the story went on after the Capella incident.

Oh and thank you for the replies so far.  But just to be clear Inferno has only fifteen or so missions, right?  In other words I won't see the Icanus and the Gigas duke it out?

Nope, you're going to have to wait for INFSCP for that.

Yeah, in fact you'd have to wait for another installment after that one that since INFSCP Chapter 1 is just INFR1 rehashed. :P

Yes, but if you recall, Derelict shares the same chronology as at least two other campaigns... Warzone I believe, and the previously-mentioned BWO, which does will feature Sol reunification IIRC.

I have good news, there's already a campaign that fatures the duel, although it's not very good.
It's called Solar Wars and should be available from FSMods or FS2Sector.
It's set in INF universe, but it isn't INF canon.

Take a look at the FreeSpace Wiki.  There is a campaign list that lists the campaigns in a relatively chronological order.

It's also possibly the buggiest mess ever released in FreeSpace history.

It may be, but I played it and it worked, plus it's the only place you can see Gigas and Icanus dueling (that's what he asked for).
IMHO, it would be nice to see a second part of Solar Wars.
Does anybody know who made it, if he have a HLP nick (the wiki points to japaneese-sounding "Gai Daigoji")?

Gai Daigoji is registered on HLP.

Ah, right, I must have missed a letter when searching for him.
Last active in 2007. There goes the hope of soon hearing about Solar Wars Chapter 2.  :)

Ok, thanks for the heads-up Dragon.  I'll take a look at that campaign later.  For now I think Blue Planet will be the one I'll play.

Cerberus was meant to carry on the storyline and does cover reunification with Sol, but only in some ways. For the most part, it becomes a third massive conflict.

I would recommend the Procyon Insurgency or Blue Planet personally. When Earth Defense and the War in Heaven continuation of BP arrives, those will be ones to definately check out as well.

I want to play through every single campaign[spelling corrected] that picks up the story where it left off in FS2
every single campaign
every single campaign
every single campaign
every single campaign

See you in a few centuries.

Blue Planet is the campaign to play at the moment. Procyon Insurgency is also quite good. If you try to make your way through all the drudgery people have managed to come up with you'll end up like those poor sods in MST3K.

every single campaign
Not all campaigns are set Post-Capella.

Most of them are though, since it relives the creator of having to be carefull not to contradict canon events during the course of story.

If you want some post-Capella campaigns and mods, Bonehead, be sure to look at this lot:

- Derelict
- The Procyon Insurgency
- Inferno Release 1
- The Second Great War Part II
- Blue Planet: Age of Aquarius

I've played all of them except the Second Great War Part II, which I'm still playing because it's so damn long. :p

There are somewhere over 100 campaigns on freespacemods.net for FS2 and FSOpen.  Start downloading and playing.  If you don't like the campaign don't finish it.  Everyone has their own personal preferences, so advice on what campaigns to play should be taken with a grain of salt.

Indeed.  And so therapeutic, too.  Nothing but targets as far as the eye can see.
