From searching here, I understand they were all the rage about 8-10 years ago or so. I looked through FSMods and most of the other potential sites, and the only one seemingly still available is in Galemp's converted Descent3 models (http://www.freespacemods.net/download.php?view.175).
So, are there any others still floating around out there?
With a lot of trial and error, I did manage to figure out how to convert MetalBeast's D2X-XL Pyro (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v379/Timerlane/hipyro2r.jpg) into a usable POF(subsystems, gun/missile/thruster/docking points, etc), but being a pretty much complete newb effort on my part, it has no LODs, debris, or shield mesh(I know there's always "surface shields" for that, but still).
-
i modeled one awhile back, but never got around to texturing it yet.
no you can not see a pic.
-
You already did a lot, LODs, debris and shield mesh are nice to have, but not nessesary.
-
I had a Pyro-GX some time ago...never found it since I had to reformat.
-
Metalbeast's is already converted, and I have it... somewhere.
I'll dig it up for ya.

Haha, what a coincidence. I'm also finding a high-poly Pyro-GX as well, to turn into a Transcendence player ship.
At the moment, I'm making do with a 3DS model I found on the Descent Network's file system (http://download.descent-network.com/goodies/descent2/3dmodels/by_justinkrenz/), which is miraculously still working despite the website being more or less dead, with all links to these files broken. If you're using Blender, the 3DS executable works perfectly. I converted it to OBJ using Blender before importing it into Maya.
I'd like to use MetalBeast's Pyro-GX, Bubbalou's Pyro-GX or the Into Cerberon Pyro-GX if I can, but for now, I'm using the Pyro-GX I found in the link above. Textures are rubbish, so I'll attempt to do some UV mapping on it over the next fortnight if I have the time.

This is relevant to my interests.

Here ya go.

there is a problem though, not all the textures are being applied, IDK why but it should be easy to fix in PCS.
As it stands, it even works in retail.

What's the file extension of the model? I can't download stuff from Megaupload.
-
.pof, but the file is .7z
-
I could attach it here for you. It's actually Eagle's D3 Pyro model, which is arguably a bit smoother-looking than MB's.
I might used that one first, if I'd had easy OOF/OGF conversion abilities.

Did you want a particular/non-POF format? It'd be pretty simple to use something like 3D Exploration to convert from MB's ASE file to another format.
I guess I'll also throw up my MB conversion POF if anyone wants to play with that. Guns are 4x1(to discourage linked fire, plus I made 4x2 one of the benefits for Galemp's Magnum in my edits); I used the 'bomb' hardpoint he added as the 'centerline' gun, rather than use the Vulcan/Gauss submodels(YMMV, though I thought I'd stay as 'canon' as I could in appearance; pardon the demi-pun).
Again, no shield mesh on this.

If it's possible for you to, I'd like it in OBJ format please. I could then load it in Maya or Blender. :)

Bad news :blah:: My trial version ran out, so I can't do any more converting ATM.
Good news :): For some reason, I did think to also save a copy in 3DS format when I originally made the COB file I'd need for PCS2. Hopefully, it can be useful(for some reason, when I remove it from the directory I originally saved it in, different textures seem to stop displaying, even though they're present in the new directory). Included are JPG textures created when the file was made. The original TGA textures are in the previous archive.

3DS format should be fine. Many thanks and much obliged. :)
