Title: [Freespace on Linux] problem with the 4th mission of FS2 (SM1-04.fs2)
Post by: potterman28wxcv on June 14, 2010, 03:02:50 pm
Hi all, when I load this mission (SM1-04.fs2), the game crash, it gives the following return in bash :

master@master-desktop:~/FreeSpace2$ ./fs2_open_3_6_10
ERROR: "Invalid ship/wing name.  In sexpression: ( is-destroyed-delay 5 "GTT Argo 01" )  (Error appears to be: GTT Argo 01)" at mission/missionparse.cpp:6096
AL lib: ALc.c:1879: exit(): closing 1 Device
AL lib: ALc.c:1808: alcCloseDevice(): destroying 1 Context(s)
AL lib: ALc.c:1420: alcDestroyContext(): deleting 5 Source(s)
Inconsistency detected by ld.so: dl-close.c: 731: _dl_close: Assertion `map->l_init_called' failed!

I've installed FSO manually, following these instructions : http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php?topic=60842.0

And that's the full command name : /home/master/FreeSpace2/fs2_open_3_6_10 -mod mediavps -img2dds -no_vsync -cache_bitmaps -dualscanlines -targetinfo -orbradar -rearm_timer -ballistic_gauge -ship_choice_3d -weapon_choice_3d -3dwarp -warp_flash

I think this problem exists only on linux, because the game on windows works perfectly.
It was just as a title of information, of course :) I will play another campaign

You need the mediavps patch.  It can be found in the release thread in the FSU forum.

Also,

-img2dds
this is an evil flag. If you have the hardware to run the MediaVPs, don't ruin the graphical pleasure with this flag.

Thanks, I forgot to copy the patch into the mediavps directory ^^

The problem is that I don't have good hardware.. and I tried with all the graphic settings in 800x600 mode and it lagged.
I'll try it, but I hope it won't lag  :)

The problem is also that -img2dds can reduce graphics quality. If you have MV_Advanced, I'd recommend removing it, if you seem to be having performance issues. It is a strain, and I can guarantee that the game still looks excellent without MV_Advanced.
