“We oppose the legalization of sodomy,” the platform says. “We demand that Congress exercise its authority granted by the U.S. Constitution to withhold jurisdiction from the federal courts from cases involving sodomy.”

I think some republicans have been doing to many hallucinogens... as far as I know, they do not have that ability and must pass a constitutional amendment in order to do so. They would do well to recognize that checks and balances apply to all members of the federal government, not just the democrats, no matter what they may wish and dream.
And really these idiots need to go curl up in some corner and die, disappear, vanish, whatever, just gtfo of American politics; I cannot stand their hypocritical, two-faced 'protect our rights--take their rights!' platform. It tarnishes America's global and self-image, and is antithetical to every right the past 235 years of struggle have earned us. For the good of the country, I vote we nuke their site from orbit--it's the only way to be sure.

The 25-page proposal, presented last week as a guide for the state GOP over the next two years, includes other measures including outlawing “sexually oriented businesses” like strip clubs and banning “all pornography.”
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
-
They're never going to get that stuff passed, you know. There's no way that people would vote for banning all porno. The voter backlash would be like an open rebellion.
-
Especially since all men watch porn (http://www.telegraph.co.uk/relationships/6709646/All-men-watch-porn-scientists-find.html).
-
Oh, boy, most of the stuff mentioned here has been declared unconstitutional by the Supreme Court before. The ACLU and other law firms are going to be laughing all the way to the bank.

Meanwhile, Focus on the Family are rubbing their money-grubbing hands.
-
What's Focus on the Family going to do? If they try to pass this platform the ACLU are going to drag them out in front of the appeals courts/Supreme Court for a good *****slapping and there's nothing Focus on the Fundies can do about it.
-
This thread begs the troll question: Why do they hate America so much?
-
how the hell is the gop going to get back into power if they keep doing the **** that got them out of power in the first place?

Lately, they've been pandering to the teabaggers, the neo-confederates, and the John Birch Society nuts, instead of trying to mainstream themselves by distancing themselves fro mthese people. Their tactic is simple - They're for the fringe.

Without commenting on the thread topic, I will say that you're demonstrating your Constitutional ignorance here. Congress has the authority to regulate the jurisdiction of the courts. (This was actually a major point of contention surrounding the PATRIOT act.)
-
I say, if they want to shoot themselves in the foot, give them the biggest gun they can get, and make sure you're nowhere nearby when they pull the trigger.
Voted 'yes' in the poll on that article.

Aww crap, yep... Upon closer inspection there is no link between the supreme court and the lower courts. When it referred to inferior courts I thought it meant inferior to the supreme court which would act independently of the legislature.
I like Aard's solution.

You know what, if you want to make sure the Republicans don't get elected next time the best solution is to simply not complain about their crazy schemes when they mention what they plan to do. They'll simply get crazier and crazier until they become completely unelectable.
-
Just a reminder, this is the GOP in Texas. If their platform included legalizing murder because unfettered access to guns should be complimented by their unfettered use, they could probably get at least a few politicians elected on that platform.
...
It's just a matter of framing, really....
...
You know what? Suddenly, I have this urge to move to Texas to try to legalize random acts of gun violence, just to see if I can for political SCIENCE.
-
I don't think people are going to let them ban pornography

It's like anti-evolution!! :D

Hey, careful where you paint with that brush. Houston elected an openly gay mayor.
We have to restrict to West Texas now.
-
What is the big deal anyway?
1) The ban on 'blowjobs' can not be enforced.
2) All gay couples will most likely have left the state anyway (or just marry somewhere else) if political/public opinion is against them.
3) You can't prevent people from going to internet pornography sites without monotoring and censorship.
4) The law most likely will not get passed.
So yeah. Just let them.
Eventually they will come up with the ban on interacial marriage again. Then you can just throw in the 'It's Nazi!' argument and you will have won.
-
I can see that this proposal will have all of these GOP nuts deeply sucked dry of any chance of feasibility.
-
I'm willing to bet a lot of the GOP who pushed this are closet homos.
-

Shocker: Not a GOP candidate.
My point was that if you find Republicans on the whole to be at least a little close-minded and/or crazy, they're worse in Texas, and there's enough of them to make some absolute lunacy a viable party platform. I didn't say they'd sweep the state legislature; I said, "...they could probably get at least a few politicians elected on that platform," and intimated that the party in that state was crazy enough to try.

Take your pick, Republicrats or Demopublicans, the difference is that one is a little more open about their agenda. I'm not gonna sit here and pretend that I like much of ANYTHING that the American Left has to say or wants to do, but I'm also not gonna sit here and circle-jerk with the Republicans simply because they oppose the Democrats. It's bull**** political demagoguery that has gotten to where we are at right now. All it really does is keep us distracted while they run up the debt and behave like the kings and queens of old that this country was founded to escape from.
-
Are you saying that Democrats secretly want to outlaw oral sex?

Mostly that's true, just in this case it's the Republicans trying to force their religious ideology on everyone. It does however make for an effective distraction as you've pointed out.
-

actually I think you just witnessed one of his rare 'spooky moments of clarity' where he makes a complete paragraph or two that is actually an accurate approximation of reality. what he is saying here is that republicans really don't give a **** about it, but are using it to distract people as they are taxed without proper representation.
-
...without proper representation.
I have a feeling I know where this is going, but please indulge me with an explanation.
-

Which he's been having a lot more of recently. Can't say i'm unhappy with it.

Wait, what? Correct me if I'm wrong, but that means, say, an african-american person and a caucasian person getting married, right?
There's something wrong with those people. The quotes in those articles basically said that gays were the spawn of satan trying to destroy the american way of like. F*ck that, gays are some of the most fun people I know.

No, he really means humans and vulcans shouldn't be allowed to marry. :P
