Title: Engines and Glows - relationship?

Okay, this is the deal. I got the transforming veritech almost ready. However, if I add glows, when it transforms they will just be floating in space... so... is there a way to tie the glows to engines? I think once an engine is gone then the glows go... but then the ship does not go. SO... this is my idea... can this be done:

create TWO engine subsystems for the Veritech (it will be designated a bomber)... when it transforms, hopefully we can disable the engine that is tied to those glows but have the other one continue to power the ship.

So, how can you do this?

Engine01 and engine02.

Most of the new capships have multiple engine subs....hell, the Bone has 2!

I think glow point positions are offset from the TS axis defined centre of your main subobj. In which case you're stuffed.

not realy, unless you place the glowpoints so they'll be in a good place in both vertions, or the robot vertion completly covers the glowpoint.

That seems like it would work. But it would require remodelling your transforming Veritech, which is already in POF. It's an option, I guess.

Well.. actually, there really isnt any way to make it so they get covered up since the legs move FORWARD when it transforms.  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)

You could set the engine subsystem to 0% during the transformation.

How'd you create this.  It seems like an interesting concept.  What did you have to modify?

If u used a SEXP in mission to fix the subsystem, yup. U'd also need a SEXP to break it.

Is it possible to have a triggered rotation?

i.e. you make the glows rotate into the model when it transforms. It's not perfect but it's better than nothing. I'm not too knowledgeable in FS animation so it's kind of "a shot in the dark" on my behalf.

Just like Claw said, use a SEXP in the mission to fix it.
