Title: FS Open won't Start
Post by: MikeN47 on July 04, 2010, 09:51:01 pm
Hi,

When I attempt to launch FS2 Open, the program will not start.  I can see the FS2_Open_3_6_10.exe *32 is running in the task manager.  After having downloading and installed the game from GOG it was working in vanilla.

Vista
Intel Quad Core
Gateway FX tower
SB Audigy
ATI 5770 Graphics card 1 GB RAM  Driver Ver 8.732.0.0 dated 5/4/2010
4GB RAM

Install Path: E:/Freespace2/

No error messages.  Just runs in task manager without executing.

I'm not finding info on this issue.  I set up FS 2 Open 3 6 10 with the latest installer.  I followed the installation and did install Open AL prior to opening and setting the launcher options as per the post given in this forum.  The only error I received on the FSO installer was that 2 compaigns needed additional files.  I have included the log. Thanks for any assisitance you can give and if it has happened prior, hopefully you can point me in the right direction.  Thanks!.

Please delete the multi-mission-pack.vp. It is corrupted and may cause the game to crash.

I just wanted to commend you for supplying an fs2open log. You are a hero of tech support, and Chief Ninja The_E was thus able to solve your problem expeditiously!

Just so we're clear. If you select a mod with the Launcher, you must also select the appropriate campaign. That is, when you have the game running, go to the Campaign Room and select the correct campaign. The main FreeSpace 2 campaign is selected by default, and if you have, say, FSPort as an active mod, nothing can go right, unless you first go and select the FS1 campaign.

Hey, thanks a lot! I was having the same problems and I was about to post. Then I found this thread and tried deleting that file. Worked like a charm! Thanks again!

Hello -   Im usually a lurker here - ;p

I am having the same problem as well ...  I recently upgraded to Win7 and reinstalled all the required files.
Before Win7, I had WinXP installed on this same computer - and I have not upgraded any hardware.
Usually I can search the forums and get a quick solution to any problem that either me or my friends have about
Freespace.

I am having the problem of Freespace2 not launching. It just shows as a process in Task Manager and thats it.

I open the launcher -
and then nothing happens....  The launcher is pointed to run  "C:\Games\FreeSpace2\fs2_open_3_6_10.exe"

Freespace2 sits at "C:\Games\Freespace2\ " on my harddrive

I downloaded and re-downloaded OpenAL and performed install....

I also tried searching the forums without much success.

I love what this community has done for this game and I appreciate any help. Thanks!

*edit*
I forgot to include system specs (incase if needed)

Dell 8300
P4 3ghz
2gb Ram
ATI  HD2400 AGP 512mb Graphics Card
Win7

Let me know if any other information is needed. Thanks again!

Searching root pack 'C:\Games\FreeSpace2\multi-mission-pack.vp' ... Your multi-mission-pack.vp seems to be broken. Move it completely outside the \freespace2\ directory and the game should work. If you intend to play multiplayer at some point, try to find the file from some other source. If you aren't going to play multiplayer, you can forget the file from now on.

Thanks

I will remove it and report back. I ran the campaign installation and I suppose the installer maybe placed the mods in the main directory?

Thanks again!

Oh wow .... That file was sitting there the whole time and I overlooked it...

So Simple.....

I feel dumb as hell ......  I read the solution to the original poster's problem and tried looking
for it - and it was in the main game directory the whole time....

lol

Thanks again!
