Title: Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker
Post by: qazwsx on July 07, 2010, 07:31:23 am
So, I've got about 50 hours playtime on this game, and I'm just working my way through extra ops after completing the story, anyone else have it?

It's a very apt title for a main thing in the plot :P

some sort of walking thing that brings peace (by destroying whatever the OpFor is), I would guess.

wow, a powerful mech/robot thing, possibly with nuclear weapons
sounds a little like a ...
METAL GEAR
to me.

OMG, I've been playing the **** out of this. It's great! It's what Portable Ops should've been. I am starting to get a little burned out though...

8.9-9.9 (http://www.gamesource.it/console/psp/Scheda/Metal-Gear-Solid-Peace-Walker/Recensione/)

Seems a nice game, I may buy it in the foreseeable future.

u r so dumb

It's a fantastic title. It has multiple meanings: one who walks for peace (Gandhi-esque), or a 'walker' (i.e. METAL GEAR!?) that's more pacifistic than the usual brand, with connotations of Cold War-era deterrence - which fits the setting perfectly.

To be perfectly fair, though, Metal Gear Solid is chock-full of pants-on-head stupid naming conventions.  I've still yet to be able to get through the first game, at least partially due to the facepalming involved. :p

No, look, you don't understand. You don't get it.

It is vitally important that these names be the way they are.

However:
Spoiler:
Peace Walker is a nuclear deterrent, a fully automatic one controlled by an AI developed to perfectly mimic The Boss. The AI dev knowing that she would be the only one who could live with causing genocide in order to protect her country, something a normal person could not do.
so yeah... Nuclear deterrence strikes again.

Japanese people like these stupid titles for some reason... Full Metal Alchemist, Devil May Cry, Metal Gear Solid, Bleach...

They can mean many things, but most likely they're just Engrish.

Considering Bleach was named after a Nirvana album, I don't think it qualifies as Engrish. :p

The worst bit is that this time the title really does make sense.
