Title: Ratings/views on AquaNox?

Hi all,
I'm looking for views on AquaNox from a Freespace-perspective.

Has anyone played the retail version? I tried the demo, graphics are stunning, but its hard to judge storyline and gameplay (it always take a while to get familiar with controls in a new sim/shooter). I've read some reviews, and they are mostly positive, but I heard some ppl not liking it at a hardware forum I hang out, dont know if those people are into freespace-ish games though.

So any views on AquaNox from a Freespace perspective?

The game is excellent. Perfect in all but two ways. It's a little cartoony and my graphics card damn near died trying to run it. I was getting like 1 frame per second on my TNT2.

The demo runs smooth on my rig (Athlon1200, Voodoo5) so I probably will do alright.

The game ran fine on my machine, but it is really more of a tech demo in my opinion for showing off the capabilities of graphics cards (sort of like Incoming); the gameplay and story are a bit too simple and arcade-like for my tastes. ;)

Ohhh, too bad :(. The storyline actually got a good rating in a review i read (avault - although they said it was a bit confusing).

Well, I read a review which gave it good points. :) I haven't played it, though.

From what I know (which isn't much), it's an underwater 3D RTS. Subs, marine cities, that kind of thing. :)

As said above I have only played the demo (http://www.avault.com/reviews/review_temp.asp?game=aqua), but AquaNox is in many ways similar to Freespace. True, it takes place under water instead of in space, but the feel of the underwater crafts you pilot are similar to the ships you pilot in FS. And its the first game I have tried that have graphics that outshine Freespace2, the engine is also used in the benchmark AquaMark (www.geforce3-gamer.de/gef...uaMark.exe). I think it's still full price here in Aus. Do you think it's worth buying? :)
